Most parents don’t come looking for a diagnosis. They come looking for answers. 🤗

Why is this so hard?
Why aren’t things improving?
What are we missing?

And that’s exactly what a dyslexia assessment provides.
Not just a label but a clear understanding of your child’s learning profile.

It helps you see:
➡️ What’s going on underneath the surface
➡️ Where the breakdown is happening what support will actually make a difference

Because guessing is exhausting. Trying everything without knowing why often leads to more frustration for both you and your child.

Clarity changes that.
It gives you a way forward. ❤️

I’ve worked with so many children over the years, and one pattern comes up again and again:

The earlier we understand a child’s learning profile, the different their entire experience of school becomes. Not because the child is different but because the support is.

When we identify dyslexia early:
⭐️Support is targeted
⭐️Progress feels achievable
⭐️Confidence is protected

When it’s identified later:
Children have often spent years feeling behind, confused, or “not good enough.” And that’s the part we can change.

Early identification doesn’t just impact learning. It shapes how a child sees themselves. 💪

This is where so many families feel confused.
Your child is curious.
Articulate.
Full of ideas.
They can explain things, problem-solve, and think deeply.
So when reading feels hard... it doesn’t make sense.
And often, this is where concerns get dismissed.

“They’re smart, they’ll be fine.”
But intelligence doesn’t make reading automatic.
For some children, the pathway to reading is different.
And without the right support, it stays hard no matter how bright they are.

A dyslexia assessment helps explain that gap.
Not to define your child...
but to understand how they learn best.

Why choose a speech pathologist for a dyslexia diagnosis?

Did you know that speech pathologists are qualified to diagnose dyslexia?

Because we specialise in language, we look at more than just reading, we explore the skills underneath:
• phonological awareness
• word decoding
• spelling and writing
• memory, vocabulary, and comprehension

This gives you a full picture of your child’s learning profile, not just a test score.

From there, we can design a plan that’s practical, evidence based, and tailored to your child’s needs at school and home.

When we think about dyslexia, we often picture a child who is already struggling to read. 📚

But it usually starts much earlier than that.
Subtle signs like:
Difficulty with rhyming trouble learning letter sounds mixing up words or slower language development.

These are easy to brush off.
Easy to explain away.
But they’re often the first clues.

The challenge is, if we wait until reading “fails,” we’ve already missed an opportunity to step in earlier.

Early identification means we can support children before frustration builds.
Before confidence drops.
Before they start believing they’re “not good at school.”

If you’re noticing these early signs, trust that instinct.
You’re not looking for problems.
You’re looking for understanding.
☺️☺️☺️

One of the hardest parts of this journey❓
Being told to wait.

“Let’s see how they go.”
“They might catch up.”
“It’s still early.”

But while we wait... children notice.
They notice reading feels harder.
They notice others moving ahead.
They start to question themselves.

And over time, that turns into: avoidance, frustration, and a quiet loss of confidence.

☝️Here’s what I want you to know:
You don’t need to wait for failure to take action.

If something feels off, that’s enough.
A dyslexia assessment isn’t about labelling your child. It’s about understanding how their brain learns, so you can support them in the right way, sooner.

Because early clarity doesn’t create problems... it prevents them.

What schools don’t always see...
→ The effort it takes just to read
→ The mental fatigue that builds all term
→ The emotional toll of keeping up

For children with dyslexia, the holidays aren’t just a break from school, they’re a chance to rebuild.

Rest isn’t a luxury. It’s part of learning, confidence, and resilience.

What no one tells you when your child is diagnosed with dyslexia is how heavy the emotional impact can be.

Hearing your child say things like “I’m dumb” or “I’m stupid” is heartbreaking and it’s often the part that gets overlooked.

While everyone focuses on phonics and academic support, few talk about how to help your child feel understood and confident.

So what do you say when your child feels this way?

How do you handle school pushback when you’re fighting for the support they deserve? And who teaches you how to navigate this emotional rollercoaster alongside them?

That’s the gap we see every day.

That’s exactly what our course, Navigating Dyslexia, is here to fill.
Because supporting your child isn’t just about reading and writing, it’s about nurturing their self-worth and teaching them to stand strong, no matter what.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure, you’re not alone and there is a way forward.

For children with dyslexia, even
“simple” classroom tasks take enormous mental effort:
→ decoding words
→ recalling spelling patterns
→ organising thoughts
→ keeping up with peers

What looks like distraction, avoidance, or carelessness is often invisible effort.

When we recognise the hidden work, we can replace frustration with understanding and support real learning.

The relief that comes with clarity.

“Now I finally understand my child” - parent after a Little Voices assessment.

We see it every week, that moment of relief when a parent realises their child’s struggles make perfect sense.

An assessment doesn’t just give you a report. It gives you:
• language to explain your child’s needs
• evidence to advocate at school
• recommendations that actually work

If you’ve been told “just wait and see,” but your gut says something more is going on, trust that instinct!

Getting a clear diagnosis now means your child can get the right support sooner.

Assistive tech isn’t “cheating.”
It’s access.

If your teen can explain their ideas out loud but struggles to get them on paper, the problem isn’t intelligence, it’s the pathway.

⭐️The right tools can help bridge that gap
⭐️Unlock their thinking, not replace it
⭐️Level the playing field so their ideas shine

Using assistive technology is about supporting learning, not taking shortcuts.

Save this if you’ve ever wondered whether assistive tech is “fair,” and follow for ways to make writing and learning easier for your teen.
