Well I've been in town a week and thought it was time I put the brewery to the test. Just doing a tasting paddle as I'm catching up with a mate here on Sunday.

3. Golden Ale. Everything the tasting notes said and more. Very clean and a beer you could go to town on. A great session beer.

6. New England IPA. Again another well made beer. The tropical flavours were definately there, but because I had it straight after the Golden Ale it didn't jump out there and smack me like I was expecting it to. At 6.5% it will certainly tame the cranky man.

15. Oatmeal stout. And the man is very happy again. Park me in the corner and keep em coming. Definately a well made easy drinking stout.

Irish Stout. Again a very yummy and well made stout. Not as harsh as some Irish stouts I have had. Definately a winner for me.

Looking forward to Sunday.

Cheers
Pud.

Holgate Brewhouse,
part ll.
Been for a walk and find in the second bar another brew list with 16 more beers. Only 3 on the previous list. The brewery has been going for 25+ years.
Have made a great selection from left to right
16. Brown Ale. Definatley a great session beer, 4.8%. A very easy drinking beer.

15. Dundel Hefe Weiss.
Never had a dark Hefe before. Can't find the banana in it but definately can taste the fruit cake. The Hefe I had in the first paddle was one of the best hefe I have had. Though not as good as the first hefe that Craig brewed at the Thirsty Crow all those years ago.

1. Campfire Red. How many times can you find a new favourite beer. At 7% not an advisable session beer. It's everything the tasting notes say. Malty caramel is amazing and then the resin from the hops cut in. Yes, I'm a big fan.

14. Baltic Porter. 7.9%
Hail "Ragutis" the Baltic God of beer. I think I've made it to Valhalla. No sword in my hand but I'll tell em I'm a brewer and they'll let me in. Again everything in the tasting notes is there. The chocolate at the start and the rum that lingers on the palette as the liquid disappears down the throat.

6. Midnight Cowboy. 6.7%
The barman said it's his favourite but be warned it is an acquired taste. If you like a sour step up and order a pint. A dark beer(Never seen a dark sour before). Made on wild yeast it has undertones maybe overtones of cider vinegar. Once you get through the vinegar you can start to enjoy it.

Has been a great day. Staff are friendly and the beer great. Can't comment on the food as I had lunch at the bakery. Pies were good as well.

Went for drive today to find "Hanging Rock" up near Macedon Vic. But took a wrong turn and found the "Holgate Brewhouse" instead.
Such bad luck on my part.
Far to many beers to do them all on a tasting paddle. So will have to settle for paddle then a stroll around town. Will have to avoid the distillery if I'm to get home tonight. Looks like a pub & restaurant in the front. There is a taphouse around the corner with another range of seasonal & special release beers.
Might have to do an update once I get out of here.

The ute has definately overheated.
About 15kms out of Heathcote is Tooborac.
Heard good reports on both the brewery and the pieshop so having a taste test.

1. Woodcutters Amber Ale 5.3% the barman said it's his favourite. Definately a beer I could drink all night.

2. Fireman's Red IPA 5.3% so so full of flavour. On the of the best red beers I think I have had.

3. Milk stout 6%. Very well made & even easier drinking.

4. Blacksmiths Porter 5.5%. Think it would become my go to drink if I lived here.

5. Goulburn Draught 4.6%
Definately made to keep the pub beer drinkers happy, but it is a very well made beer that once again would make a good session beer.

Have a "margarita gose" to try. Also looking forward to the ginger beer and the rest of the range when I get back into town.

Had a chilli beef pie for lunch. Bloody awesome. The Pies are all made inhouse. Will definately checking out the rest of their Pies when I'm back. Looking forward to trying their rabbit pie.

Right outside the bestest brewery wagga has to offer.
Yes have made it back here. Celebrating 60th birthday. A lot colder then 1770 qld. last year.
12 of the 16 taps have there own beers and a few guest taps.
Cheers.

Wide Bay Brewing Company.
Brew Pub based at the Australian Hotel in Maryborough.

Had 8 beers on tap. Did a paddle or 3 with lunch.
An awesome range of beers.
The queenslander burger was also heaven in my mouth. A chicken schnitzel burger that is crumbed in house with a range of spices that provide a flavour to die for. Chips were also coated with chefs own special blend of flavours.
The lemon & myrtle calamari is also a dish to rave about.
Now the important stuff.

1. Midstrength beer. An easy drinking session beer that would keep most punters happy.

2. Premium lager. Again another easy drinking beer.

3. Pilsener. Thought I Had died and gone to heaven. Very clean and refreshing. One of the better pilseners I have drunk.

4. Wheat beer. A Hoegardden clone.
Cant beat the original. Maybe needs a bit more orange and coriander to match the Belgium original but very close and very easy drinking. Would be very hard to climb out of the vat if you fell in.

5. Pale Ale. A very well made and easy drinking beer. Would make a great session beer.

6. Smugglers IPA. Yummo. Heaps of flavour with galaxy & cascade hops. A big 6.7% alc. to match the flavour. Not a big session beer unless you like sleeping in the corner. Loads of flavour and very yummy.

7. Ziengibier. Looked like an alcoholic seltzer. Clear as a glass of water. The flavour gave it away. Very nice ginger beer.

8. Dark Ale. What a way to finish lunch. Lovely aftertaste of coffee. Would have easily settled in for the afternoon on this one.

If your dodging potholes and heading up the Bruce highway do your tastebuds a favour, come and find The Australian Hotel in Maryborough.

Heard a rumour that they now have a stout on tap for the winter.
Thankfully its not a rumour. So I've had a stout with a bratwurst for lunch. Yes the foodvan was great. Ladied by a German lady who has been in Australia for 30 years.
The stout another sensational drop from a small craft brewer. Its nearly good enough to convince me to stay up here. So it is up to the standard of their other beers. Yes have done a taste test and notes in an earlier post.
Cheers

Talk about a great place to visit. This is one of them.
6 glorious pools, all different temperatures, from fairly cool to boil an egg, almost.
Powered & unpowered campsites as well as motel rooms.
Friendly staff helped make it a great visit.
I spent my days enjoying the pools and doing a few massages.
My campsite was big enough for ute, camper and the gazebo. Heaps of room.

Just finished another magical housesit at Mutchilba qld and now heading to Innot Hot Springs for a few days but look what I found at Tolga.
A distillery, yes the ute has overheated again.

A small selection with a great range of cocktails etc.
1 vodka. Talk about clean & smooth. Definitely a vodka worth sipping over ice.
2 gins. Reflection Gin. This was my favourite. Flavoured with juniper, strawberry gum & lemon myrtle. Why ruin a great tasting drink with soft drink. Have it over ice or maybe add the traditional tonic. The floral bouquet in the aftertaste from the strawberry gun was amazing.
And Allure Pink Gin.
Juniper berries, native rasberries(bloody amazing taste), and a mix of Myrtles have made a flavour to remember.
The rasberries have really made it a big flavoured gin.
1 cold brew coffee liquer. If all coffee tasted this good I would start drinking coffee again.

Hard to pick a favourite.
Would be happy the have the Reflections Gin as my go to gin anytime. And the vodka was so smooth it was hard to believe it was a full 40%.

Been in Julatten a week and finally found the Julatten Pub.
What a surprise. The hotel is owned by a Melbourne brewery.
Snuck in yesterday and there "Blood Orange Cider" is one of the nicest ciders i think i have had the pleasure of. Not sweet, not tart. An extremely well made cider.
The ginger beer has heaps of flavour. Also a well made brew.
Today i enjoyed a pale ale, and now enjoying a hazy pale ale.
The pale ale has plenty of flavour without being over the top.
The hazy has a hint of orange. Not strong or overbearing. Just a gentle orange taste at the start so you know your having an awesome craft beer.
Well thats all i can report on today as its time to go on home.
Will no doubt try the rest of the range over the next week or two.
