With the seasonal change settling in a lot of us start to notice shifts in how we feel. Energy dips, low mood and motivation, sniffles, dry throats and generally feeling run down. This is a time where in clinic we focus on helping the body adapt to environmental change, reduce stress load and support its natural ability to restore balance.

Treatment during this time may include a combination of acupuncture alongside cupping or gua sha and dietary and lifestyle guidance to support how the body is responding to this change in season.

If you've been feeling a bit run down this week pop on in and we can support your body through it ❤️ As always appointment avails can be viewed and booked on my website (link in bio) x

Lately many people are expressing to me a sense of exhaustion, not so much in their physical body but they are mentally and emotionally tired. A chatty mind throughout the night while the body is trying to rest, and frequent waking especially between 1-3am.

In Chinese Medicine, this is considered a key time in the body clock that reflects difficulty in processing stress smoothly within the body. This system is linked to the smooth flow of energy and emotions and when under prolonged stress, emotionally overloaded, constantly pushing through or feeling like we always need to be 'on', its often the mind that stays switched on at night even when the body is tired. This constraint can show up as interrupted sleep, neck and shoulder tension, irritability, feeling tired but wired or waking feeling like you're never fully rested.

The good news is acupuncture focuses on regulating the nervous system and helping the body shift out of this survival type mode and into a state where deeper rest becomes possible x

I’ve had a few questions lately about how acupuncture can support cycle changes or discomforts… it’s something we work with a lot in Chinese Medicine.

Your cycle actually gives us so much insight into how your body is functioning each month (which is why we’ll always ask about it, even if it’s not related to your main concern!)

What is moxa?

A gentle heat therapy used in Chinese Medicine ✨

Made from the herb mugwort, moxa is used to:
• warm the body
• support circulation
• ease tension

It may also be included in treatments to support digestion, help with fatigue or low energy, and support the body when it’s feeling run down.

It can be used to assist with pain that tends to feel better with warmth, such as menstrual discomfort or musculoskeletal tension.

This treatment is subtle, calming, and deeply grounding and you may experience this as part of your acupuncture treatment, if suitable for your needs.

I often use a smokeless form of moxa in clinic, which provides the same gentle warmth without the strong smell or smoke.

I really love working with athletes! I relate to the mindset through my own training over the years. Discipline and consistency with training, how having something to focus on in this way can really shape the way we navigate through life.

In clinic I often see response on a physical level through acupuncture, electro, cupping etc but what I love most about it is that we're not just working with muscle tension in TCM. We're always looking at the whole system. How imbalances may show up in sleep, anxiety, feeling 'wired but tired', fatigue, hair, skin, cycle changes... digestion, slower recovery, injury.

I've experienced this myself at different points when training load has been high, but the demands of life are quietly eating into energy and recovery can't quite keep up.

I aim to gently guide what's out of alignment back to balance holistically. It's not about taking you away from training, its about full system support so you can keep doing what you love.

Ever wonder why we talk so much about nutrition and your digestive function? What we refer to as 'the Spleen system' in TCM is responsible for so much more than just digestion. It plays a huge role in how your body creates energy, how smoothly it can move, absorb and how clear you feel mentally. When this system isnt functioning at its best, it can present as bloating, brain fog, fatigue, loose stools, cravings, heaviness in the body, poor appetite, worry and overthinking. Not only this, in TCM each food has its own energetic quality and nature. Some warm, cool, building, moving, calming etc, and with this can link to nourish other organ systems. CM dietetics is something simple you can focus on between treatments to support your body into balance. Its not just what you eat, its how you eat. Rushing, stressed, scrolling, eating on the go, all of this matters from our lens. A calm state supports digestion ❤️
