✨SMRITI✨ - Remembering your Why

When we start something new, whether it’s a skill, practice, schedule or hobby, motivation and the spark of novelty get us through the door. Everything feels new in our body and mind, as we carve fresh neural pathways and explore the unknown. We trust ourselves to achieve goals or follow through with intentions, and we put our energy into it, but sometimes over time… we lose sight of the WHY. Motivation fades, distractions or complications arise, and the learning curve might turn steep. This is especially relevant if the intention is long-term!

Something that can help bring clarity and devotion back into our practices is using memory, or smriti, to “Remember your Why.” Smriti is something I’ve been encouraging students in their yoga practice (and out of!) to utilise when the road we tread feels rocky.

Why do you practice?
How does it make you feel? What are you here for?

Reshaping our focus to become clearer on our WHY can help reignite the flame in actioning our intentions. This season of Spring, the representation of the element Wood in the Wu Xing, is a beautiful reminder to move in momentum towards our greater visions and goals. Do you see the fresh growth around you, the seed in the soil bursting towards the light in its effort to evolve into a plant?

No matter how small it is, a step is a step on the thousand-foot journey. As we near the tail end of the year, how do you put the rubber to the road? Remember your WHY, and perhaps the vision becomes a little clearer…

Meet Abigail, creator of Wild Yoga Studio and hinterland local🤎

Forever inspired and in awe of the human experience, throughout her life Abigail has followed the threads of curiosity with reverence for the body. After completing a bachelor of exercise and nutrition science at university, Abigail furthered her studies in embarking on her yoga teacher journey as a way of understanding the body as not just the sum of its parts, but a living, thriving ecosystem asking us to listen and act deeper.
Abigail’s personal practice and classes come from her roots of strong, creative asana flows, yet invites to the practice the subtler realms of yin yoga and meditation… creating for you a well-rounded practice honouring effort, ease, and above all, a deeper intimacy with yourself.
Abigail has lovingly offered her yoga classes and immersions for Montville since 2022, and joyfully opened Wild Yoga Studio Montville in September 2024.

Abi’s offerings blend modern science with ancient wisdom. With classes grounded in both the human experience and the natural world around us, Abi gently encourages her students to see their yoga practice as an exploration– traversing the internal landscapes of the mind and heart while tending to the physical vessel. Her classes weave in yoga history and philosophy, the 5 elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine, zenthai shiatsu-inspired bodywork tools, acupressure and Qi gong, drawing on from her years of curiosity, study and of course– practice.

When she’s not teaching (or practicing) yoga, Abigail enjoys artistic endeavours, particularly within ceramics and watercolour. Creating from the serenity of her country cottage, Abi also loves to spend time with her husband and many animals on their farm in Obi Obi. You may catch her at the farmer’s markets, on a hinterland hike, or reading a book at Little May cafe…all a part of living her version of a yogic life ꩜

Reach outwards from the cocoon of Winter to step into the new light of Spring. Determined, movement-orientated and purpose-driven, the Wood element is an expression of actioning our dreams and making choices to support our greater vision.

Join Abigail on Friday September 12th, 5:00-7:00pm for 2 hours in reverence and exploration of the Wood element in our practice and beyond.

✨WORKSHOP FLOW✨:
We’ll begin our immersion with awakening pranayamas, Qi Gong and energising asana flow to land in the somatic medicine of the body and its movement. We’ll then land into a Liver & Gallbladder focused yin yoga practice with acupressure & self-touch woven through. We’ll close this experience with a warm tonic and gentle discussion.

✨YANG TO YIN – A vin/yin style class for a balanced practice.

This vinyasa/yin style class is a beautiful, balanced exploration of both yang and yin in your yoga practice. We start with 30 minutes of slow flow to move and mobilise, then dial down in longer-held Yin poses for the last 30 minutes. This immersive class pulls on components of flow, pranayama, meditation, Qi Gong and acupressure.

✨FASCIA WORKSHOP @ WILD YOGA STUDIO MONTVILLE✨

Join Sarah Best for a 2-hour journey of slow unwinding, self-care and somatic exploration. You will be guided into a sensory based conversation with your connective tissue. You can expect:
꩜ Self-massage tools
꩜ Fascia ball techniques
꩜ Somatic practices
꩜ Fluid movements
꩜ Anatomical language

We will target different areas of the body with an attitude of self inquiry. Along the way, we might discover tight areas, holding patterns and densities. We are not trying to achieve a release or to “fix” the body, but rather speak to the autonomic nervous system. The intention is to feel sensations without any agenda. Emotions get held in the fascia when they are unexpressed or unable to flow. Your body is awaiting for you to simply listen, rehydrate and tune in for that full-body sigh.

Slow Flow is a wonderful opportunity to embody the movement of yoga with mindful flow and slow transitions. A great way to move with presence while building strength and mobility, we explore pranayamas, asanas and meditation in this class.

If you’re looking for a chance to mobilise, strengthen, and lean into the physicality of the yoga practice, Wild Yoga’s Flow class is for you!
Flow embodies a vinyasa-styled practice connecting breath and asana (postures). We move through our practice in a strong yet grounding, fluid flow. You can expect pranayama, asana and meditation, and for your body to move!
