I really lovey this! You’ve got time Mumma 🤍 slow down 🤍
“We’re not turtles mama!!”
It’s been a week of change for my little boy. He’s been sleeping in his own bed, in his own room. Some nights he has come into my room. Most nights it hasn’t been until the morning.
I lie down with him and cuddle him to sleep. Tonight I said “I’ll just sit on the floor here and you can fall asleep”.
He immediately got upset and started crying. I got up and cuddled him but he’d already started to get worked up and his brain was going as fast as his little heart as I held him close.
When his brain starts going fast I can’t keep up. “We’re not turtles mama! We’re not turtles”. I squeezed him tight and began counting and so did he and we snuggled in and when he was calm enough I said - “can you tell me about the turtles?”
He said baby turtles (“as soon as they’re born that’s how baby they are mama”) head straight for the ocean. They have to survive predators so they rush to the sea when they’re just seconds old.
“They’ve got no time”.
I held him tight and I think I’ve found the thread.
“We’ve got time” I say.
He nods and snuggles into me. “There’s too many changes I don’t like changes and I want us to be slow”.
We can slow down. He can be cuddled to sleep. There’s no rush. We’ve got time.
