Today I drove two hours in the rain to drop a horse off, I saw a Client on the way back from there that lived on a long dirt road that had just been resurfaced with road base. My Float and Ute are covered In really sticky corrosive dirt. I stopped at one more client on the way home, and while treating her horse, I looked out and saw her and her son cleaning my rig. My clients are my friends and family, people ask me why I work the hours I work, it's because I care for the horses as well as the people that care for their horses. And every now and then I see how much they care for me.

Thank you, we should all take care of each other the best we can. ❤️

I'm often asked what is the difference between the Class 4 laser therapy we use at Equine Edge Rehabilitation and red light therapy. While both use light energy to promote healing, they differ significantly in their approach, application, and effects.

*Class 4 Laser Therapy*

Class 4 laser therapy uses high-powered, focused light energy to deliver deep tissue pe*******on and stimulate cellular activity. This therapy is often used to treat musculoskeletal conditions, wounds, and post-operative care.

*How Class 4 Laser Affects Cells*

Class 4 laser therapy affects cells in several ways:

- *Increased ATP Production*: Laser energy stimulates the mitochondria, increasing ATP production and enhancing cellular function.
- *Reduced Inflammation*: Laser therapy decreases inflammatory mediators and increases anti-inflammatory cytokines, reducing inflammation and promoting healing.
- *Increased Collagen Synthesis*: Laser energy stimulates collagen production, improving tissue strength and elasticity.
- *Modulation of Pain*: Laser therapy affects pain perception by releasing endorphins and reducing pain signals.

*Red Light Therapy*

Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation (PBM), uses lower-powered, non-coherent light energy to promote cellular activity. This therapy is often used for skin and wound care, as well as promoting overall wellness.

*Key Differences*

The main differences between Class 4 laser therapy and red light therapy lie in their:

- *Power Density*: Class 4 lasers deliver higher energy doses, resulting in deeper tissue pe*******on.
- *Treatment Depth*: Class 4 lasers can reach deeper tissues, making them suitable for larger animals or more severe conditions.

I'm often asked the difference between red light therapy and the Class 4 Veterinary laser we use at Equine Edge Rehabilitation so here you go:)

*Equine Class 4 Laser vs. Red Light Therapy: Understanding the Difference*

When it comes to treating equine injuries and conditions, two popular modalities often come up: Class 4 laser therapy and red light therapy. While both use light energy to promote healing, they differ significantly in their approach, application, and effects.

*Class 4 Laser Therapy*

Class 4 laser therapy uses high-powered, focused light energy to deliver deep tissue pe*******on and stimulate cellular activity. This therapy:

- Uses higher wattage (often 10-30 watts)
- Emits a concentrated beam of light
- Targets specific tissues or areas
- Stimulates collagen synthesis, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue repair

*Red Light Therapy*

Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation (PBM), uses lower-powered, non-coherent light energy to promote cellular activity. This therapy:

- Uses lower wattage (often 1-10 watts)
- Emits a broader, less concentrated beam of light
- Can be applied over larger areas
- Stimulates cellular activity, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue repair

*Key Differences*

The main differences between Class 4 laser therapy and red light therapy lie in their:

- Power density: Class 4 lasers deliver higher energy doses, resulting in deeper tissue pe*******on.
- Treatment depth: Class 4 lasers can reach deeper tissues, making them suitable for larger animals or more severe conditions.
- Treatment time: Class 4 laser treatments are often shorter due to their higher power output.

*Class 4 Laser Therapy: Cellular Effects*

Class 4 laser therapy affects cells in several ways, leading to various therapeutic benefits. Here are some key cellular effects:

1. *Increased ATP Production*: Laser energy stimulates the mitochondria, increasing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production. ATP is the energy currency of cells, and increased ATP enhances cellular function and repair.

2. *Enhanced Cellular Metabolism*: Increased ATP production and laser energy stimulate cellular metabolism, promoting tissue repair and regeneration.

3. *Reduced Inflammation*: Laser therapy decreases inflammatory mediators and increases anti-inflammatory cytokines, reducing inflammation and promoting healing.

4. *Increased Collagen Synthesis*: Laser energy stimulates collagen production, improving tissue strength and elasticity.

5. *Improved Tissue Oxygenation*: Increased blood flow and reduced inflammation enhance tissue oxygenation, promoting healthy tissue function.

6. *Modulation of Pain*: Laser therapy affects pain perception by releasing endorphins, reducing pain signals, and promoting analgesia.

7. *Stimulation of Growth Factors*: Laser energy stimulates the release of growth factors, promoting tissue repair, regeneration, and healing.

These cellular effects contribute to the therapeutic benefits of Class 4 laser therapy, including reduced pain and inflammation, improved tissue repair, and enhanced healing.

*Equine Shockwave Therapy: A Breakthrough in Treating Musculoskeletal Conditions*

Shockwave therapy has revolutionized the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in horses. This non-invasive, pain-free treatment uses high-energy sound/Compression waves to stimulate healing, reduce inflammation, and improve tissue repair.

*How it Works*

Shockwave therapy works by delivering high-energy sound/Compression waves to the affected area, stimulating the body's natural healing process. This increases blood flow, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue repair. The sound waves also stimulate the release of growth factors, which help to repair and regenerate damaged tissues.

*Conditions Treated*

Shockwave therapy is effective in treating a range of musculoskeletal conditions in horses, including but not limited to:

- Tendinitis and ligament sprains/lesions
- Osteoarthritis and joint pain
- Back pain and muscle soreness/ kissing spine
- Navicular disease and other hoof conditions
- fascia/muscle tears and tissue repair

*Benefits*

The benefits of shockwave therapy for horses include:

- Reduced pain and inflammation
- Improved mobility and flexibility
- Enhanced tissue repair and regeneration
- Faster recovery times
- Non-invasive and pain-free treatment

*What to Expect*

A typical shockwave therapy session for horses involves a thorough assessment. The treatment itself is usually quick and pain-free, with most horses tolerating the treatment well.

If your horse is suffering from a musculoskeletal condition, shockwave therapy may be a viable treatment option. Consult with a qualified veterinarian or therapist to determine if shockwave therapy is right for your equine partner *. *meta AI assisted content*

Equine Shockwave therapy explained!!

Shockwave therapy, also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), is a medical treatment that uses high-energy sound and concussion waves to stimulate healing and reduce inflammation in the affected area.

When shockwaves are applied to the affected area, they stimulate the body's natural healing process. The high-energy waves increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue repair. This leads to a range of benefits, including:

- Reduced pain and inflammation
- Improved tissue repair and regeneration
- Enhanced mobility and flexibility
- Faster recovery times

Shockwave therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions in horses, including:

- Tendinitis and ligament sprains, lesions, suspensory desmitis with or without calcification
- Osteoarthritis and joint pain
- Back pain and general muscle soreness, kissing spine, fascia and muscle tears
- Wound healing and tissue repair, reduction in scar tissue, splints, shin-soreness
- Navicular disease and other hoof conditions

A typical shockwave therapy session for horses involves the following steps:

1. Preparation: The horse is prepared for treatment by cleaning and preparing the affected area.
2. Application: A trained therapist applies a coupling gel to the area and uses a handheld device to deliver the shockwaves.
3. Treatment: The shockwaves are administered in a series of pulses, with the therapist adjusting the intensity and frequency as needed.
4. Post-treatment: Information on follow up treatment, care, and exercise therapy is provided.

Shockwave therapy offers a range of benefits for horses, including:

- Non-invasive and pain-free treatment
- Reduced risk of complications and side effects
- Fast and effective treatment sessions
- Improved mobility and performance
- Potential to reduce the need for medication and surgery

If you're considering shockwave therapy for your horse, here's what you can expect:

- A thorough examination by a qualified veterinarian or therapist
- A customized treatment plan tailored to your horse's specific needs
- Regular treatment sessions, typically spaced 7-10 days apart unless it's used in an intensive multifaceted program.
- Monitoring and follow up care

Shockwave therapy is a revolutionary treatment that's changing the face of equine health.
