Thinking about having or have already decided to have joint replacement surgery? Understanding joint replacement is an important first step:
➡️Joint replacement involves replacing a damaged joint with an artificial joint. The advancement of materials used to build artificial joints ensure joint longevity and less invasive surgeries.
➡️Joint replacement operations differ according to the joint involved, the reason for the replacement, the kind of artificial joint used and many other factors. Nevertheless the principles of preparation for and recovery from joint replacement operations are similar in many ways:
➡️More time spent in pre-operative preparation, both physically and mentally, has been shown to improve satisfaction with the final result.
➡️It's essential to understand what this means for you, how to time your surgery, prepare well for your surgery and how to recover well.
Access our guide for understanding joint replacement for detailed information at:https://arthritistas.org.au//wp-content/uploads/2018/08/JointReplacement_Booklet_17.pdf

4 out of 5 people will experience low back pain at some point in their lives? The good news? Most cases get better in a few weeks without scans or surgery.
🔹 In fact, staying active is one of the best ways to recover faster and prevent future flare-ups.
🔹 Gentle movement, pain education, and stress management can all help ease symptoms and build resilience.
Here’s what you can do:
✅ Keep moving — rest can make it worse

✅ Talk to your healthcare team — there are lots of options beyond medication

Vale Judith Nguyen OAM. We honour the remarkable life and contribution of Judith Nguyen who passed away peacefully at home in Sydney last month. Judith was a fierce advocate for Australians with arthritis, serving as Board Member of Arthritis Australia and Chair of Arthritis & Osteoporosis Tasmania. In recognition of this work Judith was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2013. Despite living with severe rheumatoid arthritis from the age of 30, Judith led a vibrant life as an educator, government leader, and passionate community volunteer.
Judith’s warmth, leadership, and generosity touched many lives far beyond her work for Arthritis Australia. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, siblings, and countless friends and colleagues who will cherish her memory and enduring impact.
