Applying topical magnesium at night has been a game changer for both myself (a fellow TMJ sufferer!) and for my clients.

Many people already take an oral magnesium supplement, but with over 300 different body systems vying for that magnesium, a topical magnesium is a better solution for TMJ and jaw pain as it works directly where irs applied.

A simple nighttime routine of self massage to the face, neck, and shoulders provides wonderful overnight relief as it promotes natural muscle, which is particularly helpful if you clench and grind your teeth.

Always in stock here in the clinic, with different options for the face, body, bath, and a more gentle option available for young children πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Waking up every morning with jaw pain, tooth pain, or headaches is common, but it isn't normal.

Most people assume they have a jaw problem, when in reality, they have an airway problem. This is a growing problem in the developed world, which you can read about in my second pinned post.

When left unaddress, this then leads to a jaw problem, often resulting in TMJD, a dysfunction affecting the jaw joint.

The good news is that there is much we can do to improve the function of the airway, as it is comprised of muscles that can be strengthened and rehabilitated.

The quality of your sleep and breathing will impact every other aspect of your life, so if you have big goals for 2026, read on...

🌬Mouth breathing ~ Triggers the nervous system and traps you in fight/flight mode. Weight loss stalls as the system holds on to every calorie it can.

🦷Jaw clenching and teeth grinding ~ Same deal, triggers the nervous system, but is also one of the first signs of an airway issue.

😴Snoring and sleep apnoea ~ Not just annoying for your partner, but signals a major airway problem that means you are literally suffocating during sleep.

Poor sleep and airway issues are not minor problems, but key health markers that affect cognitive ability, mental clarity, overall health, nervous system regulation, gut health, stamina...and so much more.

If you are struggling with jaw pain from teeth clenching or grinding, or you want to get on top of your snoring, sleep apnoea, or airway issues, this is the year to do it!

Jaw pain worse over the holiday season?

The jaw is one of the first places we unknowingly start to tense up, particularly if there is family conflict and supressed emotions.

The holidays can bring with it all sorts of emotions.

The mouth is packed with parasympathetic nerves that we can "hack" to calm our nervous system.

Try this:

Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth, its packed with nerves that activates the body’s rest/digest mode.

You can also try running the tip of your tongue back and forth against the roof of your mouth for extra sensory input to the nervous system.

Breathing slow and steady through your nose with your tongue on the roof of your mouth is *chefs kissπŸ’‹ for your nervous system.

Give it a go over the holidays and let me know how you go.

Snoring is much more than an annoying habit to the people who have to hear it 😴

Snoring is a major distress signal that something is wrong🚩🚩🚩

Your airway is in distress every night while you are asleep, meaning that the QUALITY and QUANTITY of your sleep are impacted.

That daytime fatigue, waking up tired even after a full 8 hours, brain fog, lack of concentration, ADHD symptoms, recurring illness, slow recovery...these are all the effects on a body that cannot breathe and sleep well.

The good news is that with the right guidance and support, you can recover!

As a Neuromuscular Airway Coach, together we can get to the root cause of your airway dysfunction and get you back on the road to recovery for optimal health!

Jaw Release Part 2

The tongue is like any other muscle in the body in that it can lack mobilityπŸ‘…

And like any other muscle, it can benefit from some gentle stretching.

This will make it easier to achieve correct tongue posture and allow the tongue to perform its job properly instead of recruiting the jaw muscles.

Give it a try and let me know how you go.

Jaw Pain Series - PART 1

One of the major contributors to jaw pain is due to a weak tongue that is constantly trying to recruit the jaw muscles to do its job for it.

This very easy tongue exercise can be done as many times a day as needed.

Place the mint on the middle portion of the tongue, and then lightly suction the mint to the roof of the mouth and hold it there until the mint dissolves.

This will help to retrain the tongue to stay in the correct rest position on the roof of the mouth, and ensure correct nasal breathing occurs.

Follow along for more actionable daily tips to reduce jaw pain, teeth clenching and grinding, address your TMJD, and improve your airway to reduce snoring and improve sleep apnoea.

These are some of the questions that I get asked all the time, so let's answer them! πŸ€“

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Night Guards:
A night guard is often offered as a solution to clenching and grinding. However, this is a band-aid solution at best as it only works to protect the teeth and not stop the clenching and grinding habit. I've had many clients chew right through their night guards!😬

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Snoring/sleep apnoea:
TMJ Therapy gets to the root cause of clenching and grinding, which is primarily an airway issue! I work with you to address your airway dysfunction and strengthen the airway to reduce your airway obstruction.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Headaches and migraines:
TMJ symptoms often go hand in hand with headaches and migraines due to the referred pain patterns caused by muscle dysfunction. By addressing the referred pain and releasing the trigger points, we can greatly reduce your headaches.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Tinnitus:
Due to the ears close proximity to the TMJ's, as well as the common muscle dysfunction and compensation patterns that arise in the surrounding structures, your Tinnitus and ringing in the ears can be the result of TMJ dysfunction.

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Surgery and Botox:
Surgery is only needed in rare and extreme cases as the primary cause of TMJ dysfunction is a muscular one! Botox is another band-aid solution that does not address the root cause and can even make TMJD worse in the long run!

Let me know in the poll below if you suffer with any of these symptoms and will reach out and let you know how I can helpπŸ™ŒπŸ»
