Returning from injury can be lonely…

Not only are there often many initial unknowns but it easy to become unmotivated and lack the confidence in knowing you will return from injury like you would expect

Solution: work with a professional such as a Physio or Coach and leave all of the worries behind you.

You see, the journey doesn’t need to be lonely and you can be absolutely clear on what you need to do and with a focus on what CAN do and not what you CAN’T. All with the right person in your corner 💪🏻

At Stride we pride ourselves on getting Athlete Injury Management right the first time.

Reach out! We would love to see how we can help you and just maybe you will be out next success story 😀

Are you making this mistake in your warm up?…

Following on from our post about about how much we love to warm ups, we thought pertinent to provide insight to the number one mistake we see people make in their respective warm ups!

Mistake: rushing and doing exercises too fast!

We get it, warm up quickly and get on with doing what you are really there to do!

This is a common mindset however the negatives with this are:

❌ Missed opportunity for more exercises that compound when done together

❌ Speed sometimes doesn’t help build strength - slow speed exercises are necessary to build strength

Our tip: slow down and give yourself the time!

You will thank us for this! 😀

Persistent Ankle Stiffness - Strengthen the Soleus!

Targeting the soleus muscle with exercise is often overlooked.

The soleus plays an important role in the lower body and can be the cause of persistent issues following an ankle injury.

We love to load the soleus through standing bent knee calf raises and then loading these up with weights as able.

The goal is good quality with each rep!

The focus of this Pillar is all about pain relief, early movement and a focus on doing what you can do, rather than focusing on what you can’t! 💪🏻

Time under tension exercises in knee injury rehab

When it comes to managing knee injuries, our Physio loves to incorporate some slower tempo exercises such as the split squat seen here!

By slowing down the movement we can influence muscle strength and size development and ultimately support the progression towards returning to sport 💪🏻

Struggling with a knee injury and want a little more confidence getting back to sport? Reach out and hopefully you can be our next success story 😀

Ankle Injury Management in Sport

When it comes to managing ankle injuries we believe nothing trumps early management under the guidance of a professional!

Our early management strategies focus on:

✅ Minimising swelling through unique strapping techniques (our #1 Focus!)

✅Early movement to help with swelling and pain

✅ Strength exercise everywhere else so when ready, the body is primed to get back to exercise and sport 💪🏻

If getting back from an ankle injury is your number one priority or you know someone that fits the bill, reach out to learn more about us and how to get this early management started!

“The confidence I have in knowing I don’t have to think about what I need to be doing each and everyday to get me back to sport. The team at Stride are super supportive!”

When we have clients with injuries sign up to our value packed Move Well, Get Stronger Program, we endeavour to surround them with every bit of support and guidance possible to get then to where they want to be.

Our Physio’s and Coaches know how stuck one can feel post an injury and not being able to be out playing sport or participating with friends is lonely!

At Stride our goal is be with you every step of the way and be a temporary home until you get back to doing what you love even better than before 💪🏻

Muscle bulk differences side to side in knee pain - is it a problem?

When we are looking at injuries of the knee, one part of our assessment is looking at the quality of muscle contraction of the quads- ie how well it can work and also the size and bulk of the muscle.

Why is this important?

It is common in certain sports for athletes to have variations in the size of their quads and as part of the overall narrative, this may not be an issue!

In the case of an injury of the knee however, it is often VERY relevant and something that we want to address or work on with our athletes.

Generally speaking when a muscle isn’t able to engage or work as well, it is a sign that it may not be able to do its job to create movement and or cope with the forces occurring during movement and activity (hint: the forces on the knee in lots of activities is quite high!)

The common narrative we see with people presenting with knee injuries is pain that leads to a reduced quality of quads contraction which in turn leads to a reduction in the size of this muscle group.

Unfortunately this can often occur quite quickly and that is why we promote making a time to see us as soon as possible when an injury or pain occurs.

This ensures this doesn’t happen and there is no delay in returning back to activity 💪🏻

Checking In

Regular check ins with our clients are what we believe is our biggest point of difference!

Not only does it allow us to adapt injury rehab and performance programs but also connect with what is the most important for our clients- their WINS!

We love to hear about wins that we have helped inspire and it’s why we do what we do!

The Knee Sweep Test

A common test we do as Physio’s is a knee sweep test.

This test is used to see if there is any swelling or effusion in the knee and can give us some vital information about what might be going on in the presence of pain and/or injury.

If any swelling is present we can guide someone on how to reduce it and what exercise they can be doing (hint: there is lots you can be doing rather than just resting 😉)

If you have a knee injury or pain an don’t have a plan or don’t know what you can be doing, reach out via a DM and we can let you know how we can help 😀

Our Senior Physio highlighting why it’s important to consider who you decide to work with when it comes to your health! Don’t get caught comparing apples to oranges 👍🏻

SAME ATHLETE, SAME INJURY... DIFFERENT REHAB PLAN

Don't confuse a rehab plan, with a high performance rehab plan! ❗️❗️

In my opinion, there is a clear reason WHY Strength and Conditioning professionals are taking over the rehab space.. and that's because of their superior ability to design a high performance REHAB PLAN = RESULTS = EARLIER RETURN TO PLAY = ATHLETE SATISFACTION 💯

The two examples I've provided are from an athlete/runner of mine who has patella femoral pain and an ongoing Achilles tendinopathy.

There's some clear differences in regards to the athletes PLAN, not just her rehab exercises.

Some key features of a high performance rehab plan include
1️⃣ daily check ins - touch points are critical
2️⃣ considerations for the athletes global capacity, not just their local capacity
3️⃣ considerations for the athletes life AWAY from sport

Exercises on a piece of paper no longer CUT it❌️❌️. A plan should be comprehensive, individualised and well thought out.

And that, is why I believe S&Cs are taking over this space. Because they do ALL of these things better.
