A SOUND LIFE

A SOUND LIFE Helping people in need build the resilience to cope with adversity through music, yoga and meditation

A Sound Life helps people in need build the resilience required to cope with adversity and stress. We do this by using music, yoga and meditation to reinstate harmony between their hearts and minds. The most vulnerable people in our communities often have the least access to the tools for transformation, resilience, connection and empowerment. We are committed to changing that and to helping them

confidently surf the waves of life and realise they can experience complete joy within their lives. Since 2014, we’ve serviced over 50 facilities, positively impacting over 30,000 people in our community who need it the most. We have over 350 committed ASL volunteers who have delivered over 2,500 free music, yoga and meditation sessions to date. These numbers are a testament to who we are as an organisation, the culture we have created, our ambition and dedication, what we’ve achieved and the way we serve. Our compassionate and committed team of skilled volunteers include musicians, yoga and meditation teachers. These volunteers deliver regular programs to people in health care facilities such as hospitals and disability centres, while also delivering programs to underserved communities such as youth at risk and women's shelters. We’ve witnessed the joy and resilience our tools can deliver time and time again, which is why we are so sure they can make a difference to all lives and why we're energised to do just that.

🎶 Music and Mental Health 💛

Music is more than just a mood booster, it can help reduce anxiety, process trauma and build real human connection.

From drumming circles and group singing to the healing power of live performance, research is proving what many of us already feel: music helps us heal, grow and connect.

In our latest blog, we explore how music supports emotional wellbeing, encourages social connection and creates space for voices that need to be heard.

✨ NAIDOC Week Opening | 50 Years Strong ✨

We were honoured to join Mission Australia's NAIDOC Week event, celebrating 50 years of this important week.

A beautiful smoking ceremony opened the day, with each participant offering a word into the fire, a powerful act of connection, respect, and reflection. We also had the chance to leave our handprints on the wall, symbolising unity and community spirit.

❤️ Always Was, Always Will Be.

🖤💛❤️ NAIDOC Week 2025

This week we celebrate and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NAIDOC Week is a time for all Australians to come together to recognise the strength and resilience of First Nations communities, and to reflect on how we can walk alongside them in truth, respect and solidarity.

“The 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.”

We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recommit to listening, learning and taking meaningful action.

Let’s celebrate First Nations excellence and stand up for justice and self-determination every day.

🎶 Music, connection and celebration at Newtown Neighbourhood Centre

Our Music Program Manager performed for a group of seniors at Newtown Centre on Gadigal land to celebrate Seniors Week.

Some clients even got up to share their own songs. It was a beautiful moment filled with creativity, confidence and community.

Music offers real benefits for older adults. It can support memory, ease anxiety, improve mood and even encourage movement. Experiences like this show how powerful music can be at any stage of life. ❤️

🧘‍♀️✨Yoga is a powerful journey inward, a practice that nurtures healing, self-awareness and connection to something greater. 💛

When we slow down, breathe deeply, and turn our attention within, we uncover the resilience, compassion, and light that has always been there. This is where true transformation begins, not in striving, but in remembering.

Join us on the mat and in the heart. Together, we can create a sound life for all, from the inside out. 🌻

Our Story

We're facing a global health and well-being crisis around the world. - 3,000 Australian's died in 2017 due to su***de - 300 Million people globally live with a mental illness. In Australia, it's 1 in 5 people - 1 Billion people globally live with a disability - $20B spent in corporate absenteeism in Australia each year due to mental health concerns The state of our planet is growing ever-more precarious. We’re on a mission to change that.

A Sound Life is Australia's first well-being charity inspiring people in need to improve their health and well-being with free yoga, music and mediation programs. We service health care facilities (hospitals, aged care, disabilities, mental health) and underserved communities including youth at risk, women's shelters and refugees. Through community and corporate support, more than 200 volunteers have delivered 1,500 programs across 40 facilities serving 22,500 people since 2015. But there's still many more people to serve. Our goal is to inspire the lives of 50,000 through yoga, music and meditation programs by 2020 and we need your help.

In February 2019 we’ll be launching The Sound Life Dome, Sydney’s first for-purpose venue consciously offering an event space for making a difference. A place which makes you feel fiercely creative and wholesome, just by nature of its sacred geometry and thoughtful design.

The dome is a multi-function venue to be utilised by A Sound Life, other charities, community groups, educational institutions and the corporate sector. A venue to host events, conferences, concerts, workshops, private functions, exhibitions, screenings and more. Every event held in the dome will help us deliver more free music, yoga and meditation programs to people in need.
