5 Tips for an Ergonomic Work Setup:

1. Adjust Your Chair for Proper Posture 🪑
Seat Height: Ensure your feet are flat on the floor or a footrest, with knees at a 90-degree angle.
Back Support: Use a chair with lumbar support or add a cushion to maintain the natural curve of your spine.
Arm Position: Keep elbows close to your body, bent at 90 degrees, and wrists in a neutral position.

2. Position Your Monitor at Eye Level 👀
The top of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level.
Keep the monitor about an arm's length away to reduce eye strain.
Use a monitor stand if needed to achieve the correct height.

3. Set Up Your Desk and Accessories Efficiently 🖱️⌨️
Keyboard & Mouse: Place them on the same level, with your hands in a straight line from your forearms.
Frequently used items should be within easy reach to avoid overextending.

4. Mind Your Lighting 💡
Reduce glare by positioning your monitor perpendicular to windows or bright lights.
Use a desk lamp for focused lighting and avoid working in dimly lit environments to minimise eye strain.

5. Take Regular Breaks and Stretch 🚶‍♂️
Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Stand, stretch, and walk around for a few minutes every hour to improve circulation and reduce stiffness.

These simple adjustments can significantly enhance your health at work.

The Holiday Season and Workplace Injury's: 🎄

For those recovering from a workplace injury, the holiday season can bring unique challenges. While others celebrate, you may be navigating:

👉 Physical Challenges: Pain or limited mobility making it harder to participate in traditions.
👉 Emotional Impact: Feelings of isolation or uncertainty about the future.
👉 Financial Stress: Medical bills or lost wages adding pressure to holiday spending.

Main Tip: Focus on what you can control. Simplify your holiday plans and prioritise meaningful, low-stress activities that bring you joy and connection.

If this feels familiar, remember: you’re not alone. It’s okay to adjust your expectations, prioritise self-care, and lean on your support network.

For others, the season is an opportunity to show kindness and understanding. A small gesture of support can make a big difference for someone in recovery.

Let’s create a compassionate and inclusive holiday season for everyone.

📅 Veterans’ Health Week 2024: Keep Connected 🤝

There are over 750 events have been registered nationwide, organised by ex-service and community groups. These activities include art exhibitions, trivia nights, sailing lessons, park runs, and barefoot bowls.

To find events near you, visit the VHW calendar on the DVA website below:
https://lnkd.in/gf2GsDhY

Here are some specific tips to help veterans stay connected:

• Reach Out to Old Friends: Whether it’s an old serving member or a neighbour, take the first step. For example, reach out on social media or send a quick text to catch up over coffee.

• Join a Local Veterans’ Group: Look for community groups or veteran organisations in your area, such as RSL clubs. For instance, attending a veterans’ breakfast or participating in social outings can help you connect with others who understand your experiences.

• Make Time for Family: Schedule weekly video calls or a family dinner. For example, you could plan a Sunday BBQ to spend time with loved ones and share what’s been happening in each other’s lives.

• Participate in Community Events: Get involved in local events, like Veterans’ Health Week activities at your local RSL or community centre.

• Seek Peer Support: Reach out to groups like Open Arms for peer support from others who understand your experience (Open Arms: 24/7 support- Phone: 1800 011 046)

• Get Involved with Hobbies: Pursue activities you love- whether it’s gardening, sports, or creative arts- to connect with others who share your interests.

If you require any support, or know someone who might, please reach out today. We’re here to help 💙

✨ Prioritise Your Mental Health at Work ✨

Work can be stressful, but taking care of your mental health should always come first! Here are some ways you can manage stress and stay mentally strong:

1. Learn stress management techniques like mindfulness or deep breathing.
2. Watch for changes in your mental health—be mindful of burnout or overwhelming stress.
3. Reach out for support—whether it's a colleague, friend, or a health professional, talking about your challenges can make a big difference.

At DS, we care about our staff’s well-being, which is why we offer Wellbeing Days- dedicated time to recharge and refocus. Let’s make mental health a priority every day. 💙
