A corn is a thickened area of skin, usually on the toes or soles of your foot, caused by repeated pressure or friction. They're often painful with pressure.

There are two main types of corn:
Hard corns – usually on the tops of toes or outer edges of the foot
Soft corns – found between toes, moist and rubbery

You should consult our podiatrist if:
-The corn is very painful or inflamed
-You have diabetes, poor circulation, or nerve damage
-There's pus, redness, or signs of infection
-Home treatments haven’t worked after a few weeks

Our podiatrist will go through the process of removing the corn and will discuss further treatment options to prevent return or in some cases ongoing treatment options.

Book an appointment today if you are concerned or for a general podiatry checkup.

Seniors Footcare

As we age our podiatry needs increase, it has never been more important to highlight foot care in the elderly.

Regular podiatry checkups are important for

1. Early Detection of Foot Problems: Podiatrists can catch issues like bunions, hammertoes, or flat feet early before they become painful or harder to treat.

2. Prevention of Complications: Especially for people with diabetes, poor circulation, or neuropathy, foot exams can prevent ulcers, infections, and even amputations.

3. Proper Footwear Guidance: Podiatrists can recommend the right shoes or orthotics to reduce pain and improve mobility.

4. Management of Chronic Conditions: Conditions like arthritis benefit from ongoing podiatry care to manage pain and mobility.

5. Skin and Nail Health: Podiatrists treat fungal infections, ingrown toenails, corns, and calluses—common issues that can worsen if left untreated.

6. Fall Prevention: For older adults, podiatry care helps maintain balance and foot strength, reducing the risk of falls.

National Diabetes Week 2025 is held this week from Sunday July 13th to Saturday July 19th. This annual event, coordinated by Diabetes Australia, aims to raise awareness about diabetes and its impact on the community.

Why podiatry is important for people with Diabetes?

👣Neuropathy (Nerve Damage):
Reduces sensation in the feet, making it harder to notice injuries like cuts, blisters, or ulcers.

👣Poor Circulation:
Slows down wound healing and increases the risk of infection.

👣Higher Risk of Infections:
Minor injuries can quickly become serious infections and may even lead to amputation if untreated.

👣Foot Deformities and Ulcers:
Improper footwear, pressure points, and unnoticed injuries can lead to ulcers or deformities like Charcot foot.

If you have diabetes, it's important to visit your podiatrist regularly to avoid complications. Call our clinic to see one of our podiatrists today, We are here to help.
