At Be Physiology, we’re here to help you move better and live well. What is an exercise physiologist? In short, we're more hands-off, and they're hands-on.
We create supportive environments where individuals can feel confident and empowered to improve their health through movement. An exercise physiologist is an allied health professional, who uses exercise as medicine to treat chronic health conditions, such as stroke or spinal cord injuries. We're similar to a physio in that we have a 4-year degree, but we assess and manage conditions by prescribing exercise and movement, whereas a physiotherapist will assess, diagnose and treat your condition through a variety of hands-on skills (such as massage and dry needling). Movement is our medicine.

Despite facing multiple injuries and a stroke, Kevin's positive mindset and dedication to exercise have played a pivotal role in his recovery.
His journey offers valuable insights into the impact of professional support and the power of perseverance.
Kevin's message is clear: with hard work, determination, and the right support, recovery is possible.

Not Physiotherapists, not PTs, but Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs)!
AEP’s undertake a 4-year university degree to emerge as allied health professionals who specialise in designing and delivering evidence-based exercise.
AEPs typically work in a clinical setting, often alongside other health professionals, to support people living with:
⚡️Physical disabilities, injury or pain
🧠 Neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, Parkinson’s disease, acquired brain injury)
🧒🏼 Intellectual and developmental disabilities (e.g. autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome)
🩺 Chronic health conditions (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity)
🏃🏻♀️ Other physical and psychological conditions
With an evidence-based and individualised approach, coupled with years of formal training, AEP’s assess and prescribe exercise to improve:
• Mobility and movement (e.g. walking, balance, coordination)
• Strength and endurance for daily tasks and independence
• Pain and injury management, as well as postural support
• Functional capacity to participate in work, school, or the community
• Energy levels and secondary symptoms associated with chronic disease

Grateful for the kind words from our client, Sally! 🌟

“Sometimes a really big win can come unexpectedly and a long way into the rehab journey.
One of my long-term clients living with an ABI has recently unlocked the strength/skill/control to support himself in standing with only unilateral upper limb assistance.
This is the result of years of consistency, persistence, and trust in the process. It’s a reminder that progress isn’t always fast, but it’s always worth celebrating, no matter how far along the journey you are.”
An awesome client update from our EP, Angus 🎉

What is aerobic or cardiorespiratory fitness and how do I improve it? 🧩
Cardiorespiratory exercise is physical activity that involves large muscle groups (or the whole body) in rhythmic, repetitive motions. It increases your heart rate & requires a large amount of oxygen to be carried to the working muscles 💪🏼
If you can incorporate more “huffing and puffing” into your exercise routine, there are many health benefits to be gained!
As a starting point, this could include a fast walk, hill walk, dancing or some star jumps ⭐️
