April is Falls Awareness Month👉 Let’s talk about falls.
Because here’s the truth:
💥 Falls are NOT just part of getting older
💥 They’re often a warning sign your balance system needs help
💥 And many are preventable
In fact, around 1 in 4 adults over 65 fall each year but improving balance and strength can reduce that risk significantly. 👀 Watch out for early signs and start the conversation.

🌐 Want to learn more? Check out the Falls Awareness Month campaign at https://fallsnetwork.neura.edu.au/aprilfalls2026/ for helpful resources. 💪 Or better yet come in for a balance assessment today!

We often hear descriptions like: “The room is spinning”, “I feel lightheaded” and “I’m just off-balance”

While these are helpful, the type of dizziness alone doesn’t give us the full answer.
👉 Different conditions can feel very similar
👉 The same condition can feel different from person to person

At our clinic, we take a big picture approach 🧠. We combine your story and specific testing to find the real cause of your dizziness. If you’ve been told “everything is normal” but you’re still dizzy it might be time for a more thorough assessment. Call us on 33424378 to book an appointment.

Did you know that Tai Chi can support recovery from dizziness and balance disorders? Tai Chi is a gentle, flowing form of movement that challenges your balance system in a safe and controlled way — making it a great complement to vestibular rehabilitation.

💡 Why it works:
• Improves ankle strength & flexibility for a more stable base
• Enhances coordination between your eyes, inner ear and body
• Reduces postural sway and improves proprioception
• Builds confidence and reduces fear of falling

For people with vestibular conditions, staying active is key! Avoiding movement can actually slow recovery. Tai Chi provides a low-impact way to keep moving while retraining your balance system.

🎄✨ Travelling Over the Holidays with a Vestibular Condition ✈️
The festive season often means travel (planes, boats, long car rides), and busy environments. For those managing vestibular conditions, travelling can sometimes feel overwhelming. Here are a few tips from us at Equilibrium Rehab to help make your trip smoother. 🎁 Please remember it’s okay to pace yourself because the ultimate goal is to enjoy your trip not to rush through it!

If you feel dizzy, foggy, or “off” in supermarkets, shopping centers, or busy crowds… you’re not imagining it. These environments are full of fast visual movement and patterns (lights, shelves, people moving), which require your brain to process a lot of sensory information quickly. When the vestibular system is irritated or recovering, the brain often relies more heavily on vision to keep you balanced. Therefore, when there is too much visual information, the system gets overwhelmed. This is very common in conditions like vestibular hypofunction, concussion recovery, PPPD, and vestibular migraine. Research has shown that vestibular rehab can reduce visual dependency and improve your balance and confidence in visually complex environments. If this sounds like you, we're here to help! Contact us at 3342 4378 for a comprehensive assessment.

✨ NOTSA Highlights! ✨
Three of our staff recently attended the Neuro-Otology Society of Australia (NOTSA) Annual Meeting in Melbourne.

We were privileged to hear from keynote speaker Professor Raymond van de Berg, an ENT surgeon from Maastricht University Medical Centre with two PhDs! 🤯 He shared his research on bilateral vestibulopathy and the exciting progress being made with vestibular implants. A glimpse into the future of vestibular care! Across four sessions, topics ranged from digital diagnostic tools and complex case studies to promising research into the genetic origins of Meniere’s disease. We were particularly inspired by Dr David Szmulewicz’s work with Indigenous communities in Far North Queensland on Machado-Joseph disease (SCA3) and SCA7.

Of course, one of the best parts of the meeting was connecting and exchanging ideas with other passionate professionals over coffee, lunch, and dinner ☕🍴We’re already looking forward to next year’s conference!

Understanding Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD)🌿Have you ever felt a constant sense of dizziness, rocking, swaying or unsteadiness that just won’t go away? 🤔

💡 The good news: PPPD is real, and you’re not imagining it. With the right support such as vestibular rehabilitation, education, and strategies for the brain-body connection many people improve and get back to doing what they love. You are not alone 💚. If this sounds familiar, contact us at 3342 4378 for a comprehensive assessment.
