It's World Glaucoma Week! This evening our very own senior optometrist Nihaama Narayanan from Specsavers Ballarat will be presenting a Live Q+A event online with Glaucoma Australia. Tune in on Thursday 12 March from 7-7.30pm AEST to learn why early detection is critical in preventing vision impairment, risk assessment, and monitoring strategies. Nihaama will discuss practical approaches to identifying high-risk patients, interpreting clinical findings, and implementing timely management plans to preserve long-term visual function.

“The finalist prize money has given me the freedom to focus on personal projects for a while, and if I’m lucky enough to win the audience choice award, I’ll be able to take the rest of the year off to create a short film or develop ideas for an animated series. In support of Australia’s next generation of up and coming film makers, from a highly competitive field of more than 160 thirty‑second films, five finalists were selected through a rigorous judging process, each receiving $20k to support their future creative work 🥳

Okay, after sharing my "cycling to the city" post 🚲, I thought it’s only fair that I share my most embarrassing cycling story with you! 🙈✨

A long, long time ago in a land far away, I was working as a nanny. 🍼 One particular night, I decided to meet up with friends at a local pub. 🍻 It was only a couple of villages over, so I hopped on my bike and cycled there. 🚴‍♀️

A good time was had by all, but eventually, it was time to cycle back home. By now it was about 11 PM and pitch black, and I was honestly a bit nervous cycling so late at night on my own. 🌑😰

Partway home, I saw the lights of a car coming towards me. 🚘💡 Not knowing if it was a normal person or a serial killer, I thought it best to dive into the ditch next to the road with my bike and hide until the car passed. 📉🌾

So... I sat there. And sat there. And sat there. 🕰️👀

I kept sneaking a look and could still see the lights, but they didn't seem to be getting any closer? 🤔 I thought, "Man, this serial killer must be a really slow driver." 🐢🔪

After 20 minutes, I decided I was just going to have to risk it! 😤 I got back on my bike and started pedaling. As I got closer to the "car," a sudden revelation occurred... 💡😲

It actually wasn't a car I was hiding from in the ditch... it was the lights of a HOUSE! 🏠💡😂💀 Specsavers here I come!
