Think you can tell the difference between a callus, corn and wart? 🤔
They may look similar on the surface, but each one behaves very differently, and knowing which is which is key to proper treatment. 👇
CALLUS
• A build-up of hard skin caused by friction or pressure
• Usually broader and more superficial
• Often painless unless very thick
• Common in the side of the big toe, under the forefoot and heels
• Managed with offloading, footwear changes and regular debridement
CORN
• A small, focused plug of hard skin that presses deep into the tissue
• Feels like “walking on a pebble”
• Caused by chronic pressure or footwear rubbing
• Won’t resolve on its own, it needs proper removal and pressure redistribution
WART
• A viral lesion (HPV), not caused by pressure
• Breaks normal skin lines and may have black dots
• Often painful when squeezed from the sides
• Requires targeted wart treatment, not just simple debridement
• Can spread if left untreated
Because these lesions look similar, it is important to get a proper diagnosis. A podiatrist can assess the lesion properly and choose the right management to get you comfortable again. 👣
