If you are in Brisbane and you would like to experience Root Cause Therapy I am offering in person sessions for the next two weeks.

I have shared a link below with some more information for you but I will share from my personal experience that this work is truly transformational. Since receiving sessions myself I feel that life is easier, I am no longer plagued with debilitating doubt around who I am. Don't get me wrong I still have doubts and fears but they aren't crippling. I am not as triggered as I have been in the past with confrontations, in fact I am much better at processing conflict.

These are just a few improvements that I have noted and I invite you to see for yourself. If you want to know more please reach out.

Introduction In a world where mental and emotional challenges are becoming increasingly prevalent, a revolutionary healing method call Root- Cause Therapy has emerged to address the underlying causes of these issues. Root-Cause Therapy goes beyond conventional approaches that merely treat symptoms a...

Thank you wonderful community for supporting me all these years but I will no longer be attending home births as a primary midwife from January 2024.

🌺 Deb

I have spent the last few weeks in Brisbane with my grandbabies as I waited for the earthside arrival of the newest member of our clan. And it has been bliss!

During this visit I haven't had to rush off to attend another woman in birth, or attend appointments or organize bookings, etc. I have actually just been here, enjoying each and every moment, every cuddle and smile. During this time I have realized just how much I have missed as my time has always been with others. Don't get me wrong, that is the nature of my job, to be of service to others, but now I realize that the most important people in my life are my own family, my own children, their partners and my grandbabies.

My daughter gave birth last year and I only spent a few days with her in her postpartum before rushing off to be present for another birth. That is my job and my children have grown up with this being my job, it was expected and known that I wouldn't be there for long, but, she had a labour and birth that didn't go as expected. There was my daughter sore, vulnerable and without her mother. She did have support but she didn't have her mother and I have always felt guilt about not being there when I so fervently talk to my clients about ensuring they have a village around them to nurture them and feed them and love them up.

So with a new grandson and another on the way I have decided that I will take the time to be there, to be present for the older boys, the tired mums and enjoy the newborn cuddles.

This is me saying goodbye to birth attendance as I enter into a new chapter of my life. To allow space for me to show up for others, holding space on their healing journeys without compromise to my family time.

* No longer attending home births as primary midwife from 2024*

A study has offered a unique perspective on place of birth by carrying out research into the experiences of women in Ireland who have given birth both in hospital and at home.

The authors begin by explaining that, while hospital care is perceived as the norm in western cultures, “Homebirth is at least as safe as hospital birth for those with low-risk pregnancies, yet access is strictly regulated.” (Gregory et al 2023)

The researchers collated the experiences of 141 participants who birthed both in hospital and at home between 2011 and 2021, and found that:

“Participants’ overall experience scores were significantly higher for homebirth (9.7/10) than hospital birth (5.5/10)." (Gregory et al 2023).

“In hospital, midwifery-led care scored significantly higher (6.4/10) than consultant-led care (4.9/10).” (Gregory et al 2023).

“Homebirth was perceived far more positively than hospital birth experiences across all aspects of care surveyed.” (Gregory et al 2023).

The authors conclude that, “This study provides evidence regarding the need for genuine choices for maternity care and reveals the importance of care which is respectful and responsive to divergent ideologies about birth.” (Gregory et al 2023)

You can see the study at https://www.womenandbirth.org/article/S1871-5192(23)00035-5/fulltext and we’ve just added this to our home birth information hub on my website.

This is just one of the studies that I’ll be sharing in my monthly Birth Information Update, which we will be sending out to our email friends next week. If you’re not on our list and would like to be, you can sign up at www.sarawickham.com

And if you’d like more information about homebirth, and the evidence for its safety, I have an information hub on this topic, which you can find at https://www.sarawickham.com/research-updates/is_home_birth_safe/

It is a beautiful day up here on the farm and I am getting ready to launch my first offering. I do however need a few things -

1. A name - something that embraces what I'm offering in a catchy but not tacky way. So what is on offer? It is a yoni mapping program where I'm offering a therapy (EP/RCT) session, then a therapy and/or body work session (womb work and steaming) then finishing with a yoni mapping session.

If you are the one who finds the perfect name I am offering a free YMT program with 3 sessions (it can be forwarded on if not wanting to experience).

2. I am still not sure if I want to offer 3 or 6 complete sessions so in the name of research and beneficial outcomes I am offering 3 of each at 50% off.

Now I love homebirth, obviously it is my job but I am also passionate about supporting clients to choose when and where and how they give birth.

I currently live in the wide bay area of Queensland and our local hospital is trying to have water immersion and birth as an option for clients birthing in the hospital which I think should be available to everyone should they want it.

In my support for my local hospital I have attached a link to a survey they are currently running in support of waterbirth. If you feel inclined please complete.
