Why your neck deserves more attention 👇

Neck pain and tension are some of the most common things we see here at The Collective, and it’s no surprise when you think about how much time we all spend looking down at phones or computers. 💻📱

Your neck works hard every day to support the weight of your head (which can be around 5kg!)
Over time, repetitive postures and daily habits can place extra strain through this area, leading to tightness, reduced movement, or even headaches and shoulder tension.

During your visit, we take the time to assess how your neck and upper spine are moving, as well as the muscles that support posture and stability. Movement is one of the best windows into your overall spinal and joint health. When you come in for care, one of the first things we do is assess how well your body moves.
Here, Dr Paige is assessing neck range of motion, an important part of understanding how your spine, joints and muscles are functioning.

Why is this important?
✨ Identifies restrictions – Limited movement can indicate muscle tightness, joint dysfunction or postural stress.
✨ Guides your care – Understanding where motion is restricted helps us tailor your adjustments and recommendations.

🤕 Did you know your neck might be contributing to your headaches?

Many headaches don’t actually start in the head, they’re often linked to tension and dysfunction in the neck and upper spine. This is called a cervicogenic headache.

When the muscles, joints and nerves in your neck are under stress, it can lead to:

-Pain that radiates into the head or behind the eye
-Stiffness and reduced neck movement
-Headaches triggered by posture, stress or long hours at a desk

The good news? Addressing the neck often brings relief. Chiropractic care may help by:
✅ Improving mobility and function in the cervical spine
✅ Releasing tight muscles that contribute to tension
✅ Giving you strategies to improve posture and reduce triggers

Working at a desk? Here’s some easy desk exercises to help break up long hours of sitting and keep your body feeling good throughout the day 🙌

➡️Chair Squats
Stand up in front of your chair with feet hip-width apart.
Slowly lower your hips back like you’re about to sit, lightly tapping the chair.
Push through your heels to stand tall again.
Repeat 10–12 times.

➡️Side Stretch
Stay seated or stand tall.
Reach one arm overhead and gently lean to the opposite side.
Hold for 15–20 seconds, then switch sides.

➡️Hamstring Stretch
Sit tall at the edge of your chair.
Extend one leg straight out with your heel on the floor and toes pointing up.
Keep your back straight and hinge forward from the hips.
Hold for 15–20 seconds, then switch legs.

➡️Shoulder/Arm Stretch
Reach one arm overhead and bend your elbow, letting your hand drop down your back.
Bring your other arm behind you, reaching upward toward the opposite hand.
If possible, clasp your fingers together (or just reach as close as you can).
Hold for 15–20 seconds, then swap sides.

💪🏻Try adding these into your day whenever you feel stiff, your body will thank you!
