🤕 Did you know your neck might be contributing to your headaches?

Many headaches don’t actually start in the head, they’re often linked to tension and dysfunction in the neck and upper spine. This is called a cervicogenic headache.

When the muscles, joints and nerves in your neck are under stress, it can lead to:

-Pain that radiates into the head or behind the eye
-Stiffness and reduced neck movement
-Headaches triggered by posture, stress or long hours at a desk

The good news? Addressing the neck often brings relief. Chiropractic care may help by:

Working at a desk? Here’s some easy desk exercises to help break up long hours of sitting and keep your body feeling good throughout the day 🙌

➡️Chair Squats
Stand up in front of your chair with feet hip-width apart.
Slowly lower your hips back like you’re about to sit, lightly tapping the chair.
Push through your heels to stand tall again.
Repeat 10–12 times.

➡️Side Stretch
Stay seated or stand tall.
Reach one arm overhead and gently lean to the opposite side.
Hold for 15–20 seconds, then switch sides.

➡️Hamstring Stretch
Sit tall at the edge of your chair.
Extend one leg straight out with your heel on the floor and toes pointing up.
Keep your back straight and hinge forward from the hips.
Hold for 15–20 seconds, then switch legs.

➡️Shoulder/Arm Stretch
Reach one arm overhead and bend your elbow, letting your hand drop down your back.
Bring your other arm behind you, reaching upward toward the opposite hand.
If possible, clasp your fingers together (or just reach as close as you can).
Hold for 15–20 seconds, then swap sides.

❄️ Winter Warm-Up: Protect Your Spine Before You Move! 🧘‍♂️

Winter has well and truly set in and it's tempting to skip the warm-up and jump straight into your workout. But did you know that cold muscles are more prone to injury? 🥶

Why Warm Up in Winter?
-Increased Muscle Flexibility: Cold temperatures can cause muscles to tighten, increasing the risk of strains. A proper warm-up helps loosen muscles and improve flexibility.
-Enhanced Blood Flow: Warming up gradually increases your heart rate and blood flow to muscles, preparing your body for more intense activity.
-Joint Protection: Cold weather can stiffen joints, making them more susceptible to injury. A warm-up helps lubricate joints, reducing stiffness.

Chiropractic-Approved Warm-Up Routine:
Start with Light Cardio: Begin with 5–10 minutes of light cardio, like brisk walking or jogging, to get your blood flowing.
Dynamic Stretches: Incorporate dynamic stretches such as leg swings, arm circles and torso twists to mobilize joints and muscles.
Gradual Progression: Increase the intensity of your workout gradually, allowing your body to adapt to the demands.
Dress in layers to regulate your body temperature. Start with moisture-wicking base layers, add an insulating layer and finish with a windproof outer layer.

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Paige to The Chiro Collective! 🎉 She joins our Chiro team starting Monday, 3rd March, and brings a passion for wellness, movement, and helping patients feel their best.
Paige has experience in chiropractic care and is also a certified Pilates instructor, making her a great fit for our active community. She believes in personalized care that enhances mobility, strength, and overall well-being. Outside of the clinic, you’ll find her running, exploring the outdoors, or spending time with her dog, Rigby! 🏃‍♀️🐶
