We could not agree more.

A note to parents —you are more than just parents; you are partners first. 🌟 Amidst the busyness of parenting, carve out moments to reconnect 🤗 , laugh, and cherish each other. A thriving partnership is the greatest gift we can give ourselves and our little ones ❤️

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON 🧘
Are you a parent of school-aged children? Hang in there, just about a week left till schools reopen
And for now here are some tips to keep you regulated:

☀️ When we regulate ourselves, we create a calm, supportive environment for our kids to thrive. Pause and take a breath during challenging moments—it models healthy coping skills for your little ones.

ℹ️ Remember: Children learn how to manage emotions by watching us. Show them that big feelings are okay and can be handled with care.

☀️ Practice self-care and mindfulness to stay grounded, so you can respond instead of react.

3 Simple Tips to Keep Kids Calm This December 🎄

1️⃣ Stick to a Routine: As much as possible, keep consistent meal, nap, and bedtime schedules. Predictability helps kids feel safe, even during the holiday buzz.

2️⃣ Create a Calm Corner: Set up a cozy space with books, stuffed animals, or coloUring supplies where kids can retreat when they need a breather.

3️⃣ Simplify Activities: It’s okay to say no to overstimulation. Choose a few meaningful traditions instead of trying to do everything.

Remember, when you stay calm, kids often follow your lead 💛

Couples can become overwhelmed and disconnected during this busy period of graduations, end of year celebrations, family activities, buying presents, etc. Remember to prioritise your relationship by doing small and simple gestures to maintain connection during this time.

Here’s a simple co-regulation exercise:

The 3-Minute Connection Pause

1️⃣ Sit facing each other.
2️⃣ Hold hands or place a hand on each other’s heart.
3️⃣ Take 5 slow breaths together—inhale deeply through the nose, exhale gently through the mouth.
4️⃣ Look into each other’s eyes as you breathe, noticing the rhythm between you.

This simple pause can calm your nervous systems and bring you back to connection. 💛

🎄✨ Parenting Through the December Hustle ✨🎄

The holiday season is magical—but let’s be real, it’s also busy! Between the gift wrapping, holiday events, and never-ending to-do lists, it’s easy to lose ourselves in the chaos.

This December, let’s pause and ask:
How can I show up for myself amidst the festive busyness, so I can show up fully for my child?

Whether it’s 5 minutes with a cup of tea, a short walk, or just saying “no” to one more thing—small moments of care for yourself can go a long way. 💕

What’s one way you’ll nurture yourself this holiday season? Let’s inspire each other—share in the comments! 🎁✨

Long-distance love? 💕 It’s not about how often you talk but how connected you feel. Prioritise meaningful conversations over constant check-ins to stay close, no matter the miles. 🌍✨

💬 Navigating Special Celebrations with Your Co-parent

Planning special occasions for your child with a co-parent can be a challenge, but with a thoughtful approach, you can make it a positive experience! Here’s a simple, four-step guide to help set the stage for a smooth conversation and create memorable celebrations for your child.

1️⃣ Mindset Check: Before you call, think about what matters most—your child’s happiness! Reflect on why it’s important to keep things peaceful and supportive. Whether it’s a birthday, holiday, or other big milestone, staying focused on your child can make all the difference.

2️⃣ Set the Tone: Start with a note of appreciation, like “Thank you for taking the time to chat about our child’s special day.” Showing you value their input helps create a positive mood.

3️⃣ State Your Goal: Be direct and specific about what you’d like. For example, “I’d love to discuss ideas for celebrating our child’s birthday.” Keep it neutral, focusing on collaboration rather than control.

4️⃣ Invite Their Input: Wrap up by asking, “What do you think?” This encourages them to share ideas and keeps the focus on your child.

Possible options include a joint celebration, separate celebrations, or letting one parent take the lead with support from the other. Here’s to creating joyful, memorable moments for your child! 🎉

When life gives you lemons...

… let’s make fresh lemonade together.

Challenging life situations can be extremely hard to navigate - emotions and hormones flood our mind and body, making it really hard to think clearly. And if you add someone else’s perspective into the mix - as it would be the case in any relationship - things can get particularly stressful. This is when a caring, nonjudging and professionally trained counsellor can help.

Bit by bit, a counsellor untangles the challenging situation, exploring each piece of the story from different perspectives and without judgement. Once the puzzle of the relationship is close to being complete, it’s time to learn vital communication techniques to improve interpersonal dialogue and help sail through future storms without sinking the ship.

ALY’S PLACE is research-based professional counselling service for couples and individuals, based in Mornington, VIC Australia. Focusing on building successful and healthy relationships with yourself and others. We use solution-focused approaches in a warm and nonjudging environment.
