Following on from a recent post about the mobile diagnostic services we offer in clinic, we also work closely with another fantastic visiting specialist service — Melbourne Animal Referral Service.

Through this collaboration, we’re able to bring specialist veterinary expertise directly into our clinic, allowing many pets to receive advanced care without needing to travel to a large referral hospital.

This means your pet can remain in the clinic they already know, surrounded by the veterinary team they trust. Staying in a familiar environment can significantly reduce stress for our patients and allows us to stay closely involved in their care every step of the way.

Melbourne Animal Referral Service provides specialist consultations and advanced procedures on-site, supporting us with more complex medical and surgical cases while keeping your pet’s care team consistent.

For our clients, this also means greater convenience — fewer trips to unfamiliar clinics, less travel time, and access to specialist-level care right here at your local vet.

By working with trusted mobile specialist services, we’re able to combine the comfort and continuity of your regular vet clinic with the expertise of referral-level care — all in one place. 🐾

🐣 Easter Long Weekend Medication Reminder 🐣

With the Easter long weekend approaching, we kindly ask all clients to plan ahead for their pet’s medication needs.

To ensure we can safely and efficiently prepare repeat prescriptions, we require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for all repeat medication requests. Importantly, this allows our team adequate time to review records, prepare medication and ensure everything is ready for collection.

✨ Our recommendation ✨

To avoid dissapointment, Please check your pet’s medication supply now and contact us early if you will be needing more over easter.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us continue to provide the best care for your pets over the Easter period 💛

There was a serious productivity issue in the clinic today…but we thinkn it was a very reasonable trade-off! 🐶💕

Not long ago we joked that there is no faster way to derail productivity in a vet clinic than waving newborn puppies or kittens in front of us. Well… today that theory was well and truly proven right!

We were lucky enough to see a beautiful litter of only-hours-old puppies who came in for a quick check-up alongside their very attentive new mum. Our job was simply to make sure everyone was healthy, feeding well, and off to the best possible start in life.

The good news? Mum and all the tiny bubs are doing wonderfully. 💛

There may have been a slight delay to the rest of the day’s work while the team gathered for some very important “clinical observations”… also known as quietly admiring impossibly tiny noses and paws.

We’re always happy to check in on new mums and their litters to make sure everything is progressing normally in those first critical hours and days.

We’re proud to offer advanced diagnostics right here at our clinic through our collaboration with Insight Mobile Vet Diagnostics.

This service allows our patients to stay in the clinic they already know, surrounded by the veterinary team they trust, while still accessing specialised imaging. Remaining in a familiar environment can significantly reduce stress for pets and allows us to maintain continuity of care throughout the entire process.

Insight Mobile Vet Diagnostics provides advanced ultrasound and echocardiography (heart scans) on-site. These tools allow us to closely examine internal organs, investigate complex medical conditions, and assess heart health without the need for referral to a distant hospital.

For our clients, it also means greater convenience — no additional travel, no navigating unfamiliar clinics, and faster answers when your pet needs them most.

By bringing specialist-level diagnostics directly to our clinic, we’re able to combine the comfort of your local veterinary team with advanced imaging technology — ensuring your pet receives the best possible care, right where they feel most comfortable. 🐾

Get in touch if you feel this option would suit you & your pet. Our team would only be to happy to help.

🐟🔔 Ever heard of a Fish Doorbell?

A Great one for the kiddies to investigate

In the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands, there’s a very clever way people help fish migrate! Each spring, fish swim up to a lock during their migration but can’t always get through because the gates stay closed for boats.

So what did the locals do? They installed an underwater camera and a “Fish Doorbell.” When viewers spot fish waiting at the lock on the livestream, they can press the virtual doorbell to alert the lock keeper that fish are ready to pass through. The keeper then opens the lock so the fish can continue their journey upstream.

Typical migration timing:

Start: Early March

Peak: April

End: Late May to June

Fish begin appearing in March as the water warms, but the migration really picks up in April, when large numbers swim through the canals looking for shallow areas upstream to spawn (lay eggs).

Common species seen on the camera include:

Perch
Pike
Bream
Eels
Roach

Who knew helping wildlife could be as simple as ringing a doorbell? 🐠💧

You can help to by visiting their website to spot a fish. https://visdeurbel.nl/

🐾 WARNING: Puppy on Site 🐾

We truly love all of our patients — from our wise old seniors to our sassy cats — but there is honestly no better way to completely derail a team of veterinary professionals than to wave a fresh puppy through the door.

Enter Norman 🥹
A rolly-polly, 10-week-old British Bulldog puppy who had our entire team melting, smiling, and suddenly finding “very important reasons” to walk past the consult room.

Scientific fact*: productivity drops dramatically when puppies like Norman are present.
(*okay… not scientific, but definitely true.)

Thanks for sharing the puppy love, Norman — we’ll be talking about you all week 💙

**Drop a pic of your fur babies in the comments we would love to see them **

🐶 A Little History on the British Bulldog

The British Bulldog was originally bred in England in the 1200s. Today’s Bulldogs are loving, people-focused companions who thrive on attention (and naps… lots of naps).

As with all flat-faced breeds, Bulldogs do need some special care, including monitoring for breathing, skin, and temperature regulation — something our team is always happy to help guide owners through.

🐾 Exciting Update for Our Clients & Patients! 🐾

You may notice something new during your upcoming visits! We’re are utilising VetRec AI (aka Dave) – a smart consult note system that assists our vets by recording and organising medical notes in real time.

💡 What does this mean for you?

It means our vets will be able to spend more time talking with you, examining your pet, and focusing on their care — and less time typing behind a computer.

Your pet gets our full attention, and you get a more connected, face-to-face experience. 🩺❤️

As always, your privacy and your pet’s wellbeing remain our top priority. If you ever have questions about how this works or what it means for your visit, please reach out — we’re more than happy to chat.

📞 Call, message, or pop in anytime. We’re here for you and your furry family.

Thanks for trusting us with their care,
The Team @ Beleura Vet 🐶🐱💙

Meet Dr Adam Young 🩺

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a new member of our team.

Some of our wonderful clients have already had the opportunity to meet him.

Drum roll please . . . . . . . .Welcome to Team Beleura . . . . Dr Adam

Adam graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2020 and spent several years working in small animal practice in the north of England before making the move to the Peninsula in June 2024. He enjoys all aspects of general practice, with particular interests across both medical and surgical care.

Outside the clinic, Adam is loving Peninsula life — taking advantage of the local beaches and scenic walks — while also enjoying being just a short drive from Melbourne for sporting and live music events.

We’re thrilled to have Dr Adam as part of our team!

🌞🐨 Helping Our Wildlife During Extreme Heat 💧

With soaring temperatures, Australia’s native wildlife can struggle to cope. You can help by taking a few simple steps:

💧 Put out water

Place shallow bowls of fresh water in shaded areas. Add a stick or stones so small animals can get in and out safely.

🌳 Create shade & cool spaces

Leave shrubs, trees and garden areas undisturbed. Lightly misting plants can help create cooler refuge areas.

🦘 Watch for heat stress

Wildlife seen out during the day, appearing weak, disoriented or grounded may be in trouble.

👉 Do not give food.

Minimise handling and contact your local wildlife rescue for advice.
