New reading just arrived!! 👏👏👏 Did you know you can switch genes on and off by what you eat, how you exercise, and how you perceive life? Fascinating, and so empowering - you are NOT your DNA… 🙌

INITITAL CONSULT WITH ME - WHAT TO EXPECT:
When we meet for the first time, we talk. A lot. I'll ask you about why you're here to see me, what your energy levels are, what your sleep is like, your stress levels, what you eat and drink, how often you have a bowel movement... all the things.
And then we talk about how you WANT to feel. And what that version of you would be doing if you felt like that eg. walking 5km every day, being present for your kids, getting that promotion at work, taking holidays twice a year.
And then we balance you around that goal by asking your body exactly what it needs from you in order to make it a reality. That could be adding or deleting a certain food, drink or supplement; including a certain activity or exercise into your daily or weekly routine; supporting a particular body system or organ; clearing a sabotage you have around your self-worth, etc.
And then you go home with a list of relevant "homework" to implement in order to achieve that goal.

KINESIOLOGY
While I love nutritional medicine and naturopathy, kinesiology is my passion. Rather than assuming that someone who has a particular diagnosis, say type 2 diabetes, needs magnesium or Berberine to help balance their blood glucose levels, kinesiology gives me the ability to ASK the body exactly what it needs. That way we can keep supplements to a minimum, and really target the nutritional and lifestyle changes to the client. This increases compliance, and gives the client a sense of connection with their body - something most of us are severely lacking, these days.
In the case of a recent client with type 2 diabetes, who needs to keep things simple for compliance reasons, his body told me it needed a really good quality multi-vitamin and mineral (that way we cover all bases with B vitamins, and essential micro nutrients), magnesium in glycinate form for blood glucose balance, and vitamin D3 with K2 for immune support. And priority nutritional changes were around ensuring that he gets at least a palm-sized serving of good quality protein at every meal, with some fibre and healthy fats, minimise processed carbohydrates as much as possible, and avoid seed oils and artificial sweeteners. Pretty simple, and he's happy to follow that prescription.
Kinesiology is the bomb 👊

I loves me a “bitsy” lunch, especially when I’m at work. Protein first, then some fibre and healthy fats. Today is 2 hard-boiled eggs, some cheese, pineapple, cucumber, grapes, and some leftover roasted sweet potato from last night’s dinner

I’m very much a creature of habit when it comes to food - especially breakfast. My highest priority is always getting enough protein, and then ensuring my meals are simple and nutritious. Greek yoghurt, protein and collagen powders, and frozen mixed berries. Done, and will keep me going through my gym session, and through until lunchtime 👊

Are you getting enough for your age, and stage of life? Most people underestimate their protein requirements, especially women over the age of 30.

The protein RDI for an adult woman is 0.75g/kg of body weight. That looks like 53g of protein per day for a woman who weighs 70kg. Sounds easy to achieve, right? BUT - that’s just to avoid a deficiency.

For optimal health, we’re talking more like 1.2g/kg of body weight - MINIMUM. That’s 84g of protein for the same woman. And more for weight loss, and for those who workout.

Given that 1 medium egg contains 5-6g of protein, and 100g of roast chicken breast contains 26g of protein, it might be time to take another look at how much protein you are actually getting in your diet.

Need help with your nutrition? Consultations available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 😊

Sunday night veggie prep, to be served up with the chicken I already have roasting. I’ve chopped up 2 heads of broccoli 🥦, a whole cauliflower, and some mini potatoes 🥔, and drizzled them with extra virgin olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. Quick and easy to prepare, delicious, and packed with nutrients 😋
