One of the Six Principles of Naturopathic medicine, our treatment plans will always seek to heal by addressing and resolving the cause. General pathology testing, as well as functional testing, helps us to do this by obtaining real data from our patients. Our practitioners are well-versed in interpreting pathology testing and functional testing, and understand how to take that data and apply it to an effective treatment plan.

If you'd like to learn more, please make your initial appointment via our website, by using the link in our bio, or by contacting us on 035977 0117.

Time and again patients will bring their most recent pathology reports to appointments with our Naturopaths. They're feeling awful or having unexplained symptoms that they can't seem to get on top of. They're told their pathology report looks ‘normal’, great, all clear. A naturopath's assessment will often tell a different story. Why? There is a difference in how we assess pathology reports.
It is not the job of a Naturopath to diagnose disease, or to be a primary care provider. That is the job of your GP or specialist to assess where your results fall within the reference ranges.

A Naturopath:
💉Looks for trends over time. Is this a one off high/low reading or has the number gradually been creeping up or falling over the last couple of years?
💉Looks for optimal results, not just for the absence or presence of disease.
💉Looks for signs of dysfunction within body systems and the way hormones and nutrients are used and synthesised within the body.
💉Understands the role of nutrients within the body and where certain values should sit for improved functionality BEFORE a deficiency occurs.

If you've got 'normal' pathology results but are feeling like something is a bit off, please don't hesitate to book your appointment with one of our experienced Naturopath's. Your medical care team can be multifaceted and holistic in order to best serve your needs and maintain your health.

Your Naturopath may have discussed referring you for some Functional testing - what does this mean?
Functional testing, unlike regular pathology testing, is used to evaluate how well the body's systems are functioning at a cellular, biochemical, or physiological level, before a disease is formally diagnosed. Unlike standard pathology, which often looks for disease markers or organ damage, functional testing focuses on underlying imbalances that may contribute to symptoms or chronic conditions. What sorts of things might be measured on a routine blood test? Values obtained in a general pathology test give an excellent baseline by which to measure and monitor general health. These tests are largely covered by Medicare and would be most likely to be part of a general work up by your GP.
Did you know that we can also order pathology tests for you? When ordered by a Naturopath, your pathology testing is not covered by Medicare (meaning there is an out of pocket cost for you, the patient), however the scope and breadth of testing for which we can refer is vast.
If you'd like to know more, please chat to your practitioner, or come in to the Dispensary and have a chat!

Can YOU guess?

Dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids increases my numbers in the gut. An abundance of me in the gut is associated with improved metabolic health outcomes. I respond favourably to dietary & supplemental sources of fructo-oligosaccharides such as inulin? My name starts with 'A' - who am I?

Did you know that chronic stress may contribute to a range of GIT symptoms, including bloating, altered bowel habits, and food intolerances?

Stress hormone alterations, including prolonged, elevated cortisol, may influence gut motility and lead to symptoms such as constipation or diarrhoea, in addition to increasing the risk of increased intestinal permeability.

Specific dysbiotic microbial patterns, such as opportunistic bacteria overgrowth and diminished diversity, are also potential outcomes of stress. These effects are thought to occur via the gut–brain axis, a bidirectional communication network between the nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract.

Swipe across to read about several mind-body & gentle movement approaches have been explored for their potential to support gut function by modulating stress responses.
