With a heavy heart, I announce the permanent closure of Morphett Vale Podiatry 😥

Due to ongoing staff shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is no longer viable for us to continue operating across two clinic sites.

Morphett Vale Podiatry will permanently close its doors on Saturday 30 April 2022, so that our time and resources can be focused on Blackwood Podiatry.

This has been an extremely difficult decision, and I am so sorry for the inconvenience that it will cause so many of our wonderful patients 👣

SUMMER FOOT CARE ☀️🩴

During the warmer days of summer, our feet can experience a range of foot problems ⚠️ Read below about some of the common summer foot related problems and how to avoid them 🦶🏼

SUNBURNT FEET ☀️

We often forget about our feet when slapping on sunscreen to the rest of our body but it’s important to always apply sunscreen to your feet when they’re exposed to the sun. If you do get sunburnt feet, apply an aloe vera soothing lotion 🧴

SWOLLEN FEET 🦶🏼

During warmer weather, our bodies are prone to swelling – especially the feet. To avoid this, keep cool and if you do experience swollen feet, soak your feet in ice cold water for 10-15 minutes to reduce the swelling 💧

CRACKED HEELS 🦶🏼

During the warmer weather we often wear open shoes leaving our feet exposed to the elements and cracked heels are a common foot problem. We recommend applying a heel cream daily after showering, Walker’s is a great brand available at the flinic 🦶🏼

FOOT INFECTIONS 🦠

Avoid going barefoot in public where possible to avoid picking up a fungal nail infection. If you do go for a leisurely barefoot beach walk, always wash your feet afterwards with soap and clean water and dry thoroughly 🚿

FOOT PAIN 😢

Often caused by wearing thongs or high heels, foot pain can be avoided by wearing supportive shoes. We recommend arch support thongs and check out our post on how your feet can survive party season 🩴

BLISTERS 🦶🏼

Different shoes, sweating, swelling and sunburn can all cause blisters. The best prevention is to wear supportive shoes and socks when you’re active 👟

Take care of your feet this summer by following our foot care tips 🦶🏼☺️☀️

7 podiatry tips to keep your feet comfortable this festive season 👠

With Christmas just a few weeks away, the party season is now in full swing! 💃🏼 However, when we strap on our party shoes to go out, we often limp home with sore feet 😭

So here are our top 7 podiatry tips to keep your feet comfortable this festive season:

1. When going out, choose a low heel or - better still - wear a low wedge heel.

2. Footwear should have a fastening (such as a lace or a buckle) that holds the shoe onto your foot.

3. Give your feet frequent breaks from standing for long periods. Try and sit down as much as possible and take the weight off your feet.

4. Make sure that you look at your feet frequently - checking for any injuries such as rub marks or blisters.

5. Remember to pack some sticky plasters in your bag to use if you develop any rub marks or blisters.

6. When travelling between party venues or walking home, slip a pair of flats in your bag for a comfortable journey. We recommend “Archies Arch Support Thongs” which are available through our other clinic, Blackwood Podiatry.

7. On days when you are not out partying, make sure you are kind to your feet by wearing comfortable, well-fitted shoes all day. Your feet will also appreciate some TLC by giving them a massage each day with a good moisturising cream.

If you have any ongoing foot problems, please don’t hesitate to speak to us at Morphett Vale Podiatry for advice.

Have a fun and foot-happy festive season!

How beautiful are these warm summery days in Adelaide! ☀️ We're lapping it up with long walks along the beach! 🌴

If you are going barefoot on the beach*, remember to always give your feet a good wash and dry afterwards and then apply a moisturising cream around your heels at night. Beach walks can be very drying to your feet.🦶🏼

*if you have diabetes, please never go barefoot on the beach! ⚠️

Always protect your feet with footwear such as our Arch Support Thongs 🩴

This summer put your best feet forwards 👣

Are you feeling a bit stressed? Try this easy ‘legs up the wall’ yoga pose which offers many benefits:

- Calms the nervous system which lowers stress and anxiety.

- Increases circulation and elevates venous drainage which relives tension and fatigue from the legs, feet, and hips.

- Can relieve swollen ankles and feet (edema).

- Helps improve digestion and sleep.

We recommend 10-15 minutes whenever you need to recharge 😌

*While legs up the wall is a mild, restorative yoga pose, it is advisable to avoid practicing this pose if you are pregnant, menstruating, suffering from high blood pressure, glaucoma or other eye problems.
