Aberlea Inc. is a new entity for the organisation formally known as Abbeyfield House Mortlake which was formed in 1984 to address the need for aged care.

Aberlea Mortlake is an aged care hostel in Western Victoria. It is a modern, state of the art facility with 40 beds that provide permanent and respite care as well as day respite. Well maintained gardens, atriums and courtyards provide a pleasant outlook for residents and visitors. Every room offers a modern ensuite bathroom, built in robe, heating, telephone, TV points and an emergency call system. Residents are invited to furnish their room with treasured pieces of furniture, paintings and books to add to an atmosphere which is already homely and welcoming. All rooms have lockable storage space for residents' private belongings and doors which open to communal gardens and living areas. Communal areas within the house provide a relaxed settings where residents can enjoy the company of others, or a place to retreat for peace and quiet. A fully furnished respite room is available for those in the community who need accomodation and care on a temporary basis. Highly nutritious home cooked meals are prepared on the premises in our fully equipped commercial kitchen. Special dietary requirements are catered for upon request or need. Residents health and well-being are carefully monitored by an attentive staff of trained nurses and personal carers who are available 24 hours a day to help with all requirements. We also offer a range of service for members of the community who need help at home. These services include, but are not limited to, lawn mowing, gutter clearing, house cleaning, in house meals, window cleaning and general maintenance.

Today we celebrate “Aged Care Employee Day” 😀
Aged Care Employee Day is celebrated on August 7th each year to recognise the dedication and hard work of aged care workers. This day acknowledges the vital role all aged care workers play in providing care and support to our elders.
Today we presented staff with a certificate of thanks, a gift, as well as cakes and slices for each shift.
Together the staff at Aberlea are a fantastic team, providing care and support to residents around the clock, day and night.
To all our wonderful, valuable staff, thank you 😀

On Sunday mornings residents participate in “Sunday morning Chit Chats”, where residents talk about whatever comes to mind, as well as discuss special themes for the week. Thankyou to all staff who help facilitate this activity, by assisting residents to attend, and also by making the delicious scones with jam and cream that are a favourite 😀

Would there be any lovely community members who might be interested in bringing their dog to Aberlea for visits with residents? :) We would love to hear from people with friendly, socialised pooches who would be happy to visit residents. We ask that the dogs please be vaccinated, and are good-natured for visits with older people. Today’s “Christmas in July” celebrations were wonderful, residents enjoyed a delicious Roast Turkey lunch with pavlova and pudding following on 😀 The “Best Dressed” resident prize was awarded to David, and the “Best Dressed” staff member prize went to Raylene 😀

The “Christmas in July” craft table was the place to be today 😀 Tomorrow we are celebrating Christmas in July across Aberlea - all residents and staff (and visitors 😀) are encouraged to wear a bit of festive flair. Prizes on offer for best dressed resident and staff member.

On Tuesday this week we had morning tea at Mac's Hotel, made choc chip biscuits after lunch, then painted with Aquapaints in the afternoon 😀
