Aberlea Inc. is a new entity for the organisation formally known as Abbeyfield House Mortlake which was formed in 1984 to address the need for aged care.

Aberlea Mortlake is an aged care hostel in Western Victoria. It is a modern, state of the art facility with 40 beds that provide permanent and respite care as well as day respite. Well maintained gardens, atriums and courtyards provide a pleasant outlook for residents and visitors. Every room offers a modern ensuite bathroom, built in robe, heating, telephone, TV points and an emergency call system. Residents are invited to furnish their room with treasured pieces of furniture, paintings and books to add to an atmosphere which is already homely and welcoming. All rooms have lockable storage space for residents' private belongings and doors which open to communal gardens and living areas. Communal areas within the house provide a relaxed settings where residents can enjoy the company of others, or a place to retreat for peace and quiet. A fully furnished respite room is available for those in the community who need accomodation and care on a temporary basis. Highly nutritious home cooked meals are prepared on the premises in our fully equipped commercial kitchen. Special dietary requirements are catered for upon request or need. Residents health and well-being are carefully monitored by an attentive staff of trained nurses and personal carers who are available 24 hours a day to help with all requirements. We also offer a range of service for members of the community who need help at home. These services include, but are not limited to, lawn mowing, gutter clearing, house cleaning, in house meals, window cleaning and general maintenance.

We’re delighted to introduce Angela Oaten, our second pending Director appointment, who has been recommended by the Aberlea Board for appointment, pending formal ratification at our upcoming AGM.

Angela is currently Head of People, Marketing and IT at Multiworks, a national infrastructure and civil construction company delivering major energy and transport projects across regional Victoria. She brings more than 20 years of senior executive experience across people and culture, corporate services, communications, and strategy — including leadership roles with Top Shelf International (ASX), Symal Group, Fulton Hogan, and Penske Australia & New Zealand.

Her expertise spans governance, workforce strategy, and organisational transformation, with a proven record of guiding large enterprises through cultural change, mergers and acquisitions, and executive transitions. Angela is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Foundations of Directorship and holds a Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Social Work.

The Board’s selection panel was unanimous in its support of Angela’s appointment, highlighting her:

✅ Deep alignment with Aberlea’s mission and values
✅ Strategic, people-focused leadership style
✅ Governance and workforce insight across complex organisations
✅ Strong regional understanding through her work across Western Victoria

Angela combines corporate acumen with genuine community connection and a passion for purpose-led leadership. Her insight, warmth, and executive experience will make her an invaluable addition to the Aberlea Board.

We’re delighted to introduce Maria Collins, who has been recommended by the Aberlea Board for appointment as a Director, pending formal ratification at our upcoming AGM.

Maria is currently Director of Performance Improvement and Acting Chief Executive Officer at Yea and District Memorial Hospital, a rural health service providing acute, aged care, and community health services. She brings more than 25 years of experience in public and regional health, having worked across organisations including Austin Health, Northern Health, Mercy Health, and DPV Health.

Throughout her career, Maria has led significant quality and governance reforms, guided hospitals through multiple accreditations, and overseen major safety and risk improvement initiatives. She is also a VCAT Member (AHPRA Nursing Registrations), providing expertise in clinical governance and regulatory oversight at a systems level.

The Board’s selection panel was unanimous in its support of Maria’s appointment, highlighting her:

✅ Deep alignment with Aberlea’s mission and values
✅ Warm, collaborative leadership style
✅ Insight into the challenges and opportunities facing aged care
✅ Proven ability to connect clinical excellence with strategic oversight

Outside of work, Maria is passionate about continuous learning and mentoring emerging leaders in health. Her warmth, experience, and practical leadership style make her a tremendous addition to the Aberlea Board.

Melbourne Cup festivities yesterday here at Aberlea 😀
Residents and staff looked a million dollars in their racing finery, with prizes awarded for “best dressed” and “best hat”. Little Harriet scooped the pools to win “Best Unicorn”.
The luncheon was delicious.
We would love to thank our dedicated team for putting the day together for residents, it was enjoyed by all 😀

Aberlea has just received 5 stars in both Compliance and Quality in the latest national Star Ratings update published by My Aged Care.

The latest results show real progress across areas that matter deeply to families — from pressure injuries and unplanned weight loss, to medication safety and fall prevention.

This is more than a number. It reflects months of focused work from our clinical and care teams, and the strong leadership of Leonie Kelly, Director of Care & Operations.

In a sector where expectations keep rising, we’re proud to be keeping pace — and staying focused on what matters most: safe, high-quality care for our residents.

“I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date” certainly did not apply to residents and staff on Tuesday this week, when a splendid “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” was held.

As you can see in the photos, colourful costumes, lovely decorations and delicious food created a magical atmosphere celebrating fun and friendship 😊

Our staff work together to come up with themes for our much anticipated “Happy, Happy Hours”, our endless thanks go to these staff for planning and holding these unforgettable events 😊

As an integral part of our close-knit team, you will be provided with access to salary packaging and training and development opportunities. This casual position allows flexibility while still using your clinical and leadership skills among residents and staff.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide clinical care through a person-centred approach. Your duties will include :
Supervision of ENs and PCAs involved in providing resident care.
Working closely with residents and their families to understand their needs.
Coordinating and delivering assessments, treatment and documentation to the highest standard that meets regulatory requirements.
Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with Medical and Allied Health providers who are affiliated with Aberlea Inc.
Acting as a professional role model for the broader Aberlea Inc. team.

Current Nursing Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
It would be preferable to have aged care experience or a keen desire to work within aged care.
Good communication skills with the ability to work autonomously and as part of the team.
Those applicants with a post graduate qualification in gerontology or aged care management are encouraged to apply.
