Christmas is well and truly on its way 😀 Over the last week we have been in full Christmas mode, which is wonderful!
Last Friday night, the afternoon care shift, and our wonderful volunteer Janette, accompanied residents to Market Square to enjoy the Lions Club Comminity Carols.
Yesterday we received a visit from the delightful children at Mortlake Kindergarten, who performed a lovely selection of Christmas Carols out on the lawn. Pictured are the residents enjoying the concert, and the lovely weather yesterday morning.

And finally, we’re delighted to introduce Nicole Standfield, our third pending Director appointment, who has been recommended by the Aberlea Board for appointment, pending formal ratification at our upcoming AGM.

Nicole is currently Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Scope (Aust), one of Australia’s largest and most respected disability service providers, where she oversees governance, quality, and operational performance across more than 300 Supported Independent Living homes and 4,000 staff. She brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience across the health, aged care, and disability sectors, with a background that uniquely combines clinical expertise and board-level strategic insight.

A registered nurse by training, Nicole has previously held senior executive roles with Calvary Health Care, Australian Unity, Jewish Care Victoria, Sapphire Care, and BlueCross, where she led large-scale residential aged care, home care, and development portfolios. Her experience spans mergers and acquisitions, growth strategy, commissioning, and governance reform across complex national organisations.

The Board’s selection panel was unanimous in its support of Nicole’s appointment, highlighting her:

✅ Deep alignment with Aberlea’s mission and values
✅ Exceptional governance, risk, and strategic leadership capability
✅ Broad experience across health, disability, and aged care sectors
✅ Balanced, common-sense approach and commitment to regional communities

Nicole is passionate about high-quality care, strong governance, and mentoring emerging leaders. Her warmth, commercial acumen and deep sector experience will make her an outstanding addition to the Aberlea Board.

We’re delighted to introduce Angela Oaten, our second pending Director appointment, who has been recommended by the Aberlea Board for appointment, pending formal ratification at our upcoming AGM.

Angela is currently Head of People, Marketing and IT at Multiworks, a national infrastructure and civil construction company delivering major energy and transport projects across regional Victoria. She brings more than 20 years of senior executive experience across people and culture, corporate services, communications, and strategy — including leadership roles with Top Shelf International (ASX), Symal Group, Fulton Hogan, and Penske Australia & New Zealand.

Her expertise spans governance, workforce strategy, and organisational transformation, with a proven record of guiding large enterprises through cultural change, mergers and acquisitions, and executive transitions. Angela is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Foundations of Directorship and holds a Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Social Work.

The Board’s selection panel was unanimous in its support of Angela’s appointment, highlighting her:

✅ Deep alignment with Aberlea’s mission and values
✅ Strategic, people-focused leadership style
✅ Governance and workforce insight across complex organisations
✅ Strong regional understanding through her work across Western Victoria

We’re delighted to introduce Maria Collins, who has been recommended by the Aberlea Board for appointment as a Director, pending formal ratification at our upcoming AGM.

Maria is currently Director of Performance Improvement and Acting Chief Executive Officer at Yea and District Memorial Hospital, a rural health service providing acute, aged care, and community health services. She brings more than 25 years of experience in public and regional health, having worked across organisations including Austin Health, Northern Health, Mercy Health, and DPV Health.

Throughout her career, Maria has led significant quality and governance reforms, guided hospitals through multiple accreditations, and overseen major safety and risk improvement initiatives. She is also a VCAT Member (AHPRA Nursing Registrations), providing expertise in clinical governance and regulatory oversight at a systems level.

The Board’s selection panel was unanimous in its support of Maria’s appointment, highlighting her:

✅ Deep alignment with Aberlea’s mission and values
✅ Warm, collaborative leadership style
✅ Insight into the challenges and opportunities facing aged care
✅ Proven ability to connect clinical excellence with strategic oversight

Outside of work, Maria is passionate about continuous learning and mentoring emerging leaders in health. Her warmth, experience, and practical leadership style make her a tremendous addition to the Aberlea Board.
