Are you a solo practitioner or working in a small group psychology practice? Are you operating without a set of documented set of policies and procedures? Together with colleagues including Kaye Frankcom Consulting, I recently presented a webinar on governance and policy for small and solo practices. I was a little surprised that 50% of attendees had no documented policies and procedures manual in their practice. The Australian Commission on Quality and Safety https://www.safetyandquality.gov.au/ are likely to be drivers of accreditation for all AHPRA registered health professionals in the near future. If you are currently working without a documented set policies I urge you to find out more about this topic. You can still check out our APS webinar here: https://psychology.org.au/event/23564

Do you live with a chronic disease or work with people with chronic disease in SENSW? Please give us feedback on future service design. Thrilled to be co-facilitating this codesign for social prescribing services with my collaborative pair Carrie Lumby (Lived Experience Advocate) on behalf of Beacon Strategies and Coordinare.

COORDINARE together with Beacon Strategies is undertaking a co-design process to inform the development of a social prescribing model for our region.

Now that the initial co-design sessions have been completed, we’re seeking broader perspectives from people to capture additional experiences, opinions and suggestions.

If you have a chronic health condition or work in our region as a health professional, we’d love to hear from you! Share your thoughts by heading to https://bit.ly/2K5ggAD

Great article on the challenges faced by GPs providing good holistic care in our current Medicare system

The government is warning doctors to treat physical and mental illness in separate consultations. It’s a dangerous distinction.

The American psychologist Abraham Maslow noted that “a first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting.” This is an astute observation, which upends some conventional views about creativity. It also emphasises the importance of understanding our values. There are so many routes to our values.

Thanks Eckhart Tolle🙏 you are an oldie but a goodie! Great ACT consistent explanation of acceptance. Acceptance is the ACT process that clients struggle with the most with especially when the 'now' is full of pain, symptoms and/or discomfort. This approach to acceptance highlights the impact of reaction and struggle, rather than just staying with the pain/symptoms/discomfort.

Reflections on Shame- great episode of ABC Radio's 'All in the Mind' this week.

Shame is a painful feeling of humiliation caused by bad or foolish behaviour and can affect our mental health. This is seen particularly in the rise of anxiety and of self-harm. But public shame - especially in our digital age - can be a strong tool to regulate our social behaviour.
