SUPPORTIVE PESSARIES + PROLAPSE
What are they and how can they assist me?
A supportive pessary is a device that sits in the va**na to support a prolapse. It is a conservative management that can reduce the risk of the prolapse worsening, and can alleviate symptoms of prolapse (including heaviness, dragging sensation, issues emptying the bladder or bowels).
Clinically I have seen the use of supportive pessaries (particularly in the postpartum period) improve the severity of the prolapse, which in the last few years has been shown in the research.
If you or anyone you know if suffering with prolapse - an initial women’s health consult is a great start.
