COVID-19 NSW Update
The NSW Government has issued new restrictions for Newcastle and the Hunter, including the Newcastle, Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Port Stephens or Singleton local government areas.
From 5pm Thursday 5 August 2021 until 12.01am Friday 13 August 2021 stay at home rules apply.
If you live in, usually work in, or usually attend a university or other tertiary education facility in Newcastle and the Hunter, including the Newcastle, Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Port Stephens or Singleton local government areas, stay at home rules apply.
Stay at home rules apply if you were in the local government areas of Newcastle, Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Port Stephens or Singleton on or after Saturday 31 July 2021. If you have left the area, you must follow the stay at home rules until 11:59 pm on Thursday 12 August 2021.
The new order for these Newcastle and Hunter local government areas state:
“You must stay home. Only leave your home if you have a reasonable excuse.
If you must leave home, stay within your local area. Do not travel outside your local area if you can avoid it.
Limit your physical contact with people you do not live with. See the restrictions for visitors to a residence.
You must carry a face mask with you at all times when you leave your home in Newcastle and the Hunter.”
Full details of the restrictions are available here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/rules/affected-regions
Leaving home for healthcare services is a reasonable excuse.
As per our COVID Update on Thursday 15 July 2021, natural medicine services, including remedial massage therapies, are viewed as healthcare services when provided in dedicated clinic settings. The NSW Government continues to urge all citizens to leave home only for essential care reasons.
Our best advice to members is that where care cannot be delayed then it may proceed. Where care can be delayed or be delivered via telehealth this should occur. Circumstances of where care should not be delayed is where it would result in the deterioration of the person’s health.
All members in Newcastle and the Hunter, including the Newcastle, Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Port Stephens or Singleton local government areas should review all aspects of practice and ensure an individual risk assessment is done for your practice and your location and for each client. This risk assessment should include the decision to practice or not and what telehealth alternatives are available for your practice.
If practice is safe to continue after a thorough risk assessment, your risk management and infection control protocols must include consideration of the full range of COVID safe procedures: pre-screening before entry to premises, temperature checks, hand sanitisation, masks, full infection control and full record keeping, including QR Codes.
