What are your thoughts on this April Fool's Day, 2020
1st of April,
April fools day, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we found out today that the corona virus has simply been a joke and it is all over now.
The scale of this situation we are facing is incredible, what happens next is anyone’s guess. My concern is what will come of our international friends and communities when it enters the poorer countries of the world? What then? If we are concerned about masks, beds and ventilators in the western world now, how will it be for those who live in nations economically stretched and resource-poor. The thought is frightening.
Yuval Noah Harari has presented his thoughts on this and made many interesting points. He describes seeing an extraordinary rise in the level of nationalism and despite the rise in globalisation little international leadership is currently thinking globally of how to approach this problem of the rich and poor disparity regarding how to distribute the needed resources around ALL countries in the world.
That the banksters have been handed the keys to the earth’s kingdom at this time is clear. Michael West is an informed independent commentator who has much to say on such issues. Vox also a good site provides clear information on what is happening on this topic.
Here in Australia, that the riot squad is out in force on Coogee and Bondi beach is extraordinary - surely an over use of force and control. Unfathomable to me. The site of a mother, father, baby and pram being moved along by police. The site of a police car being used to almost drive into a man lying in the sun on a towel is horrific, What has happened?
What craziness is this? Is it a sign we are not respected citizens of a democracy, Are we seeing the images of how the serfs are treated by the feudal lords in their limitless play ground of wealth and power?
As I write this I can feel myself doing what I so do not want to do and have to manage on a daily basis. As the world of convergences into these unfolding lines, I ask myself, where am I going to place my attention, time and resources. Onto what concerns can I bring my energy and efforts that can have the most impact? I cannot, neither control or hope to influence certain things outside of my power or ability. It is important for myself, and I say, for all of us , to I believe at this time, reconnect to our practices that help bring our focus back to ourselves and onto the most important goals currently realising our deeper life purpose. To take into account that the catastrophe of Corona is here in our lives is critically important, to bring our attention and efforts to what we can do, is even more important. So much of what is happening is beyond us, it needs our awareness, but beyond the ‘right; amount of attention; costs. We need to stay alert but not risk losing ourselves to voyerism and spectator-ism. If there isn’t anything we can do, then over attention on it is like letting precious fuel run out onto the street and into the gutter, or like letting n incredible artist or indigenous person rot away in a jail for political reasons, or like a woman of talent and intelligence becoming trapped in the beauty industry or materialism and perform as a rich man’s play thing.
In a world that is getting crazier by the day focusing on what we can do and influence and not on what we can’t is the path to not only our mental health, but the true road to making a difference in this precious world we share. Creativity matters, where can we place the best use of our miracle gift and use our minds for the things we believe truly matter? At least that is my mediation for this April Fool's day.
