Join us in supporting Cancer Rehab Awareness Week 2024 ! 🌟

Together with global cancer care organisations, medical professionals, supporters and advocates we are spreading the message that nobody should miss out on living their fullest life post-cancer diagnosis.

"The number of people living with the long-term side effects of cancer is growing," says Lou James, Founder of PINC & STEEL. "Cancer rehab is vital for restoring functionality, rebuilding strength, increasing stamina, resuming work, and nurturing quality of life.”

Let's raise awareness and ensure everyone has access to the support they need. Share our posts and join the movement! 💪

Off to Brisbane today for an Oncology Scar Specialist training. Looking forward to learning from UK experts delivering this training for the first time in Australia. I’m sure it will be invaluable for supporting clients who have had cancer surgeries and radiotherapy scars.

🎗️Today, on World Cancer Day we celebrate the joy of hope and mourn the sting of loss.

Our Oncology Physios, OTs, & Lymphoedema Therapists witness what cancer 'takes' and what the treatment leaves 'behind' for people. There are incredibly challenging days but also rewarding ones when people gain confidence, hope, energy and strength.

Together, the PINC & STEEL team are striving to enhance patient care, promote recovery, and create a brighter future for those affected by cancer. So today we acknowledge all our Oncology Rehab Clinicians for their unwavering commitment and celebrate the power of collective action.

We don't talk about mental health enough in the cancer community. But depression, anxiety, and PTSD are common after a cancer diagnosis.

Many people feel as though their lives are changed forever. Surgery, chemo, radiotherapy can all change the way people feel and function. These changes are not just physical.

When treatment ends, the hard work starts. This might surprise people, considering how brutal cancer treatment can be. Healing mentally, physically, and emotionally can take a long time.

🔺Oncology Physios often hear how difficult the ongoing effects are for people, including dealing with anxiety, fatigue, loss of confidence, stress and fear. They offer space for people to download their concerns and can help with practical strategies so people can gain more confidence in their bodies. They also refer on to Pyschologists and mental health support services when required.

🔺Oncology Physios encourage and support the ‘invisible' mental health benefits of exercise without the relentless pressure of aesthetic change we are constantly exposed to in society. The transformative power of exercise extends beyond the body to also uplift the mind.

👉🏾If you think someone you love is struggling please help them seek support.

Pelvic Health and cancer rehabilitation are two of my areas of interest and I see men and women who have had cancer who also have pelvic floor issues. Physiotherapy can be immensely helpful for pelvic floor problems as well as cancer rehab.

Australian Physiotherapy Association is the peak body representing the interests of 30,000+ physiotherapists & their patients. See PD, resources & advocacy.
