Congratulations to Jacqui Johnson on reaching her 250th volunteer milestone this Saturday!

In Jacqui's words:
'This Saturday I will celebrate my official 250th volunteer. I will have volunteered 413 times unofficially, as some weeks I do more than one role on the day.

I joined parkrun back on 29/3/2014, focusing mainly on improving my time doing the course. I then started to make new friends and quickly discovered that volunteering made me feel great too. My first volunteering role was as barcode scanner on 22/11/2014, using a little Opticon scanner that needed to be plugged into a laptop at the end to download the results. It then it took me a couple of years to give timekeeper a go. Now keep in mind, we used an old stopwatch back then, the JUNSD timer, now was it the left or the right button I was not supposed to click??!!

I then got a regular gig putting out the turnaround flag each week in 2016 before becoming part of the core event team as a Run Director on 8/4/2017.

Last week I also celebrated 6 years as Co-Event Director for Mount Barker parkrun, after Ros Lowe retired in 2020 and I stepped in to try and fill her shoes alongside Paul Butler. I was an Event Ambassador too for nearly 3 years, supporting a few other parkrun events and their Event Directors behind the scenes.

It still gives me such a buzz to see the joy parkrun brings to people's lives each week. Seeing first timers grow into regular participants. Seeing regular participants become regular volunteers, sharing personal milestones and sometimes life's hurdles with members of our amazing community. We are so lucky at Mount Barker parkrun to have such an awesome core event team too.

I have made a lot of friends in 12 years and a Saturday just doesn't feel the same without a parkrun to start it. I look forward to another 250 volunteers 💚'

New finish line funnel being trialled this week!

We will be trialling a finish line funnel to make keeping in order and handing out finish tokens work more smoothly for everyone.

When you cross the finish line the timekeeper will record your time. Once you are in the funnel, remember to:

STAY IN ORDER

KEEP MOVING THROUGH THE FUNNEL AND COLLECT A FINISH TOKEN (even if you don't want a time recorded or don't have your personal barcode ready, please take a token ANYWAY when leaving the funnel or it will put all the results for everyone behind you out of sequence. You can then get your personal barcode and token scanned as usual or simply place the finish token in the bucket to be recorded as a 'unknown')

CROSS THE FINISH LINE ONCE ONLY (if you go back to run with a friend, do NOT go back over the finish line)

YOUR TIME IS THE TIME YOU CROSS THE FINISH LINE (not the time you take a token, so stay calm, keep moving and keep in order)

TAKE YOUR TOKEN TO THE BARCODE SCANNERS

SAY THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS

SEEK OUT THE VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR AND PUT YOUR NAME ON THE ROSTER - it's fun, easy and everyone will love you!!
