Dear community,

Just a quick note to let you know our lovely optometrist, Luke Higgins has appointments available this Friday at Mount Compass Medical Centre. All his patients are bulk billed.

For those who don't know Luke, his professional interests are eye disease management, sports optometry, ocular therapeutics, low vision rehabilitation and rural and community eye care. In addition to his clinical practice he is part of the teaching team at Flinders University (School of Optometry), and works with the Royal Society for the Blind.

Please phone the Medical Centre on 8556 8365 to make an appointment to see Luke.

Good news everyone!! Andy Chan, podiatrist is resuming podiatry services at Mount Compass Medical Centre on Wednesday 7th January 2026. He is currently focusing his podiatry services on men's foot health, including sports injuries, work related foot conditions and general podiatry care. Ring us on 8556 8365 to make an appointment (he will be here every second Wednesday to begin with).

We have a wonderful Christmas present for our community!!!

We have a charming new doctor starting with us on Tuesday 10th March 2026. Her name is Dr Nanije Vala and she is an experienced General Practitioner who is relocating to the Fleurieu Peninsula from the United Kingdom where she has worked for many years across both General Practice and Urgent Care settings.

Dr Vala especially enjoys preventative health and supporting patients to make informed decisions about their wellbeing. Her calm and thoughtful approach helps patients feel listened to and involved in their care. Her key areas of interest include chronic disease management, women’s health, children’s health, skin conditions, preventative healthcare, mental health, and the assessment of common acute medical conditions.

Outside of work, Dr Vala enjoys cooking and gardening, and is very much looking forward to becoming part of the Mount Compass community. Dr Vala will be available Monday to Friday.

We would like you to help us celebrate Grant Gartrell's birthday today. Grant owns the medical centre and is the reason our community still has a medical centre here in Mount Compass. Grant is a very interesting fellow. He has a doctorate in physics, is a blueberry farmer, has been a councillor for the Alexandrina Council and is a speleologist among many other things. Happy birthday Grant, the world is a better place for having you in it.

For the next two weeks, while Dr Vikki McLaughlin is on holiday, we have reduced our opening hours but things will be back to normal Monday 20th October. We are pleased to announce we have a new doctor starting early next year (more about that later).

In the meantime please ring Hello Home Doctor on 134100 (ask to be bulk billed) or go to the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic on Doctors Road in Morphett Vale if we are closed. If more serious please go straight to the emergency department either at South Coast District Hospital in Victor Harbor of Flinders Medical Centre.

Clinpath opened at our Medical Centre today and will be open every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30am to 12.30pm, all pathology requests are welcome including those from other clinics & specialists.

We are pleased to let you know that highly respected Clinpath Pathology are opening at Mount Compass Medical Centre next Tuesday 7th October at 8.30am. Their regular hours will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8.30am to 12.30pm. All pathology forms are welcome as are patients who have forms from other clinics or specialists.

Hi everyone! Just a quick note to let you know our resident optometrist, Luke Higgins has appointments available this Wednesday 24th September at Mount Compass Medical Centre. All his patients are bulk billed. Please phone 8556 8365 to make an appointment.

Also, for those of you who don't know Luke has partnered with YWAM to provide old spectacles to those in need in Papua New Guinea. We have a box at the Medical Centre that you can put your old spectacles in, they will be cleaned, measured and the prescription recorded. They will then be sent to PNG to be added to the YWAM spectacle library at the Optometry clinic where they will be provided free of charge to those in need.
