When we’re under stress, our body releases cortisol - a hormone that helps us cope in short bursts. But when stress becomes constant, cortisol levels can stay high and start to affect other areas of our health.

The gut is often called our second brain - and for good reason. It’s connected to our mind through the vagus nerve, which runs from the brain down through the neck and into the digestive system.

When I’m working with clients, I often check the vagus nerve during a nervous system reset. If the area along the neck feels lumpy or tense, I’ll ask how their gut has been. It’s a simple way to see how the brain and body are communicating.

When we’re stressed or emotionally overwhelmed, the vagus nerve can become out of balance - and digestion can slow down or feel unsettled.

Your breath is one of the simplest ways to reset your energy and calm your nervous system.

When you’re stressed, your breath becomes shallow - your body moves into survival mode. But when you slow your breathing down, your body receives the message that it’s safe again.

Try this next time you feel overwhelmed:
🌿 Breathe in slowly through your nose for 4 counts.
🌿 Hold for 2 counts.
🌿 Exhale gently through your mouth for 6 counts.

A few deep breaths can bring you back into balance and clarity. Sometimes healing starts with something as simple as remembering to breathe. 💛
