This , we're highlighting the impact volunteers are having on the endangered Eltham Copper Butterfly. 🦋
Thanks to our amazing staff volunteers, we’ve already planted 200 Sweet Bursaria shrubs and will be planting more to help create a new habitat for this rare .
Rediscovered in 1986 after being thought extinct, the Eltham Copper Butterfly relies on a special relationship with the Sweet Bursaria plant and Notoncus ants. By planting these shrubs, we’re giving these butterflies a chance to thrive again! 🌸🐜
We're joining the likes of Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria, Friends of the Eltham Copper Butterfly, Nillumbik Shire Council, and Banyule City Council in their efforts to restore biodiversity and create a haven for like the .
This is part of our 2030 Strategy which outlines our commitment to protecting biodiversity and land management.
