💛 Dementia Awareness 2025 – You Cannot Do It Alone 💛

Dementia is something that has touched my life personally, and it’s a journey that no one should face alone. Behind every diagnosis are families, friends, and carers who need support just as much as the person living withDementia is something that has touched my life personally, and it’s a journey that no one should face alone. Behind every diagnosis are families, friends, and carers who need support just as much as the person living with dementia.

This year’s theme is a reminder to reach out. Whether it’s a phone call, a visit, or just listening with an open heart, your connection can make a world of difference. 🌿

Let’s stand together, show compassion, and be the support someone needs. No one should walk this path alone. 💛

Why your GP might not celebrate a drop in thyroid antibodies

Many of us with Hashimoto’s watch our TPO antibodies closely. They’re a marker of how active the autoimmune process is. So when you see them fall — for example, from 1300 down to 400 — it feels like a huge win (and it is!). 🎉

But here’s why your GP may not give it much attention:

🔹 GPs focus on thyroid function, not immune activity

🔹 Antibody numbers don’t always change treatment

🔹 Antibodies can fluctuate

🔹 Different priorities

👉 But here’s the truth: a drop from 1300 to 400 does matter. It shows your immune system is less aggressive against your thyroid — and over the long term, this can help protect thyroid tissue and reduce inflammation in the body.

So if your GP doesn’t acknowledge it, know this: you’re still making real progress. Sometimes you just need to be the one to celebrate those wins. 🌱✨

💬 Has your GP ever brushed over your antibody results? How did it make you feel?

Your thyroid test says you’re “normal”… but you still feel exhausted, foggy, and can’t shift the weight?

You might be in range but not in balance.
💡 In Australia, the reference range for TSH is roughly 0.5 – 4.0, but many people feel their best closer to 1.0 – 2.0.

If your levels are creeping higher (or even sitting at the upper end), it could be a sign your thyroid needs support – even if your doctor says you’re “fine.”
🌿 From a naturopathic perspective, we look at the whole picture: your numbers, your symptoms, and your underlying nutrient status – not just whether you’re “in range.”
Your body deserves optimal, not just average.

What Are Autoimmune Thyroid Conditions?

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck, responsible for producing hormones that regulate metabolism, energy, and growth. In autoimmune thyroid diseases, the immune system mistakenly targets thyroid tissue as though it were a threat.

The two primary autoimmune thyroid conditions are:

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis – typically results in hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).

Graves’ disease – causes hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).

Each presents with a unique set of symptoms and challenges, but both stem from immune dysregulation and inflammation.

Autoimmune thyroid conditions are not just thyroid problems—they're immune system imbalances with far-reaching effects on metabolism, mood, fertility, and overall wellbeing.

A personalised, root-cause-based approach is essential. With the right support, many people can regain energy, balance, and health.

If you’re navigating an autoimmune thyroid condition and looking for holistic support, you’re welcome to book a consultation—or start with a free discovery call to have a chat and see if this approach is right for you.

🫚 Ginger for Thyroid Support? Here’s What the Research Says

A new study from Iran explored whether ginger supplementation could help ease lingering hypothyroid symptoms—even when TSH levels were normal.

🌿 Participants took 500 mg of ginger powder twice daily for 30 days. Many reported:

✨ Less fatigue and brain fog
✨ Improved cold intolerance
✨ Better digestion and mood
✨ Small improvements in weight and blood markers

But here’s the key detail 👉 This study did not include people with autoimmune thyroid conditions like Hashimoto’s. It looked only at adults on stable thyroid meds (like thyroxine), who still had symptoms even with “normal” TSH.

💬 Does that mean ginger can’t help in Hashimoto’s? Not necessarily—but more research is needed. Its anti-inflammatory and digestive support properties are still of interest in holistic care.

Curious if ginger could support you? Let’s chat first—herbs are powerful when used wisely.
