Troy is a huge fan of all things cars — especially the drags — so when the opportunity came up to attend the Casterton Drags, we knew it was something he wouldn’t want to miss!

With support from staff, Troy headed along for the day and needless to say… he had an absolute ball! From the sound of the engines, the smell of burning rubber to the excitement of the races, it was a day filled with everything he loves.

At LCA, we are passionate about supporting people to live life their way — making choices, exploring their interests, and creating meaningful experiences. Seeing Troy so happy and engaged doing something he truly enjoys is what person-centred support is all about.

We’re proud to share a client-led interview from Roseville, home of our Day Options service in Mount Gambier.

This was the first project in our new Local Voices, Local Stories series, where clients build confidence, communication skills and community connection by interviewing local people.

In the lead-up, clients worked on questions, practised asking them, and prepared to help lead the conversation. When Travis Fatchen visited Roseville, the result was a relaxed and thoughtful interview shaped by the clients themselves, touching on local life, cost-of-living pressures and accessibility in community spaces.

We’re really proud of the work our clients put in, both behind the scenes and on the day.

Yesterday at Day Options we were excited to welcome Travis, who is currently running in the local elections. Travis kindly took the time to visit our group and be the very first candidate involved in our new media project.

Over the past few weeks, clients have been developing their skills in preparation for interviewing community members. They have been learning how to:
• Introduce themselves professionally
• Prepare questions
And ask thoughtful interview questions
• Take photographs
• Engage with different people in the community

The project is inspired by The Assembly on the ABC, with clients creating their own version as part of their media sessions.

Clients had the opportunity to interview Travis, ask questions, and take photos as part of their hands-on learning experience. They will now use the information gathered during their technology sessions, where they will type up the interview and put everything together for a monthly newsletter that will be shared on our page.

A big thank you to Travis for taking the time during such a busy election period to visit Limestone Coast Ability Day Options and support our clients in their learning. We really appreciate you being our first candidate in this exciting project..

☀️ What a beautiful day to get out and enjoy some fresh air!

Our Day Options group had a fantastic time today heading out for a game of mini golf. With the sun shining and plenty of laughs along the way, everyone had a go at lining up their shots, cheering each other on, and celebrating the occasional hole-in-one (and a few creative detours around the course!).

Activities like this are a great way for the group to build confidence, practise patience and turn-taking, and enjoy time together out in the community. Most importantly, it was a fun morning filled with smiles, encouragement, and a bit of friendly competition.

What a beautiful day out for our Day Options crew! ☀️🌿
We made the most of the great weather by heading down to Donovan’s Landing to enjoy nature, fresh air and even try our luck at fishing 🎣 and win win !! But thrown back 🙂

Days like this are not only fun, but packed with valuable learning opportunities for our clients. Through community outings they are building important life skills such as:
• Social interaction and communication
• Turn-taking and teamwork
• Patience and focus while fishing
• Following instructions and safety awareness near water
• Confidence and independence in community settings
• Sensory regulation and wellbeing through time in nature
• Physical activity and coordination

Most importantly, they are experiencing joy, connection and a sense of achievement — especially when a fish was caught! 🐟👏

We love creating meaningful, real-life experiences that support skill development while having a whole lot of fun along the way. 💙

We are incredibly proud to share that our amazing Team Leader for Day Options, Phil Ackland, is stepping into the spotlight to take part in Swinging with the Stars — raising funds for the wonderful work of Stand Like Stone 💛

Phil is always out and about in the community, giving his time, energy and heart to support inclusion and participation across the Limestone Coast. Through his role at Limestone Coast Ability, he leads with passion — encouraging, guiding and building capacity and independence with our young people every single day. He truly loves his job, and it shows… the guys absolutely love him!

Now it’s our turn to cheer Phil on as he swaps his usual role of encouraging others for learning some dancing moves himself 💃🕺 Persistence Phil has advised is definitely on his résumé — dancing skills… we’ll see on the night! 😉
