18/11/2025

Australian National Skin Cancer Week
16th-22nd of November ☀️

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, and around 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed in their lifetime. When it comes to UV exposure, it doesn’t take long for skin damage including sunburn to occur. Over exposure to UV radiation causes up to 95% of melanomas, and UV levels across Australia reach extreme levels throughout summer.

Don’t let the sun catch you off guard.
The good news? Skin cancer is almost entirely preventable. Make sun protection part of your daily routine and remember to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide.

Slip on sun protective clothing.
Slop on broad spectrum SPF50/50+ sunscreen (20 minutes before going outdoors, and reapply every 2 hours).
Slap on a broad brim or legionnaire style hat
Seek shade whenever possible.
Slide on sunglasses that meet Australian Standards.

It’s also important to get to know your skin. If you notice any new spots or changes in the size, shape or colour of an existing spot, don’t wait, early detection can save lives.

We’re here to help:
Our GPs provide comprehensive skin cancer checks, and we also offer total body photography for thorough monitoring and early detection.

Book your skin check today and stay sun safe this summer.

Village Medical on Buronga and the neighbouring pharmacy were recently vandalised with graffiti. This behaviour is unacceptable.

When individuals choose to engage in antisocial and destructive actions like this, they take away time and resources that should be dedicated to patient care.
We have spent this morning cleaning this from windows and have had to engage a cleaner to remove the remainder.

Let it be clearly stated:
Our premises are fully monitored by security cameras, and we are actively reviewing the footage. The person or people responsible should be ashamed of their actions and understand the impact they have on a healthcare facility that exists to serve the community.

We will not tolerate behaviour that disrupts our ability to care for our patients.

If you see antisocial behaviour, please report it.

🌏 World Diabetes Day 2025🌍

Today is World Diabetes Day, a reminder of the importance of early detection, prevention, and strong ongoing support for people living with Diabetes.

In Australia, Diabetes continues to be one of the fastest growing chronic conditions.

Early Screening Matters:
Regular health checks with your GP can detect Diabetes early, often before symptoms appear. Early diagnosis reduces the risk of long term complications.

Lifestyle Changes Have Power:
Small, achievable adjustments like balanced nutrition, increased activity, and reducing sedentary time remain the cornerstone of preventing Type 2 Diabetes.

Better Care, Better Outcomes:
For those living with Diabetes, coordinated care with your GP, Nurse, Podiatrist, Dietitian, and Pharmacist can significantly improve daily management and long term health.
Continuous glucose monitoring is more accessible than ever in 2025, and many patients may now be eligible under expanded Australian guidelines.

Whether you're managing Diabetes or looking to reduce your risk, our friendly team are here to support every step of the way.

If you’re due for a Diabetes check, or would like advice on prevention, please contact us to book an appointment.
