Important Update: Dr. Moheb Gayed

We would like to announce an important update regarding Dr. Moheb Gayed’s consulting structure at Village Medical on Helen, located at 33 Helen Street.

Moving forward, Dr. Gayed will be focusing exclusively on:
Skin cancer checks & surgeries
Musculoskeletal & soft tissue procedures
Local injections

He will be consulting one week on (4 days only) followed by one week off, on an ongoing basis.

As part of this change, we are gradually contacting Dr. Gayed’s regular GP patients to arrange a smooth transition to another provider within our clinic.

If this applies to you and you have not yet been contacted, we kindly invite you to call our friendly reception team on 08 7739 8200 to discuss your options.

We are pleased to support Dr. Gayed as he pursues his passion in these areas and thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this transition.

A friendly Reminder

We are not a Bulk Billing clinic, and our fees are not determined by our Reception staff. We kindly ask that you do not direct frustrations toward them.

As part of our commitment to ethical care, we will continue to Bulk Bill the following patients:

Pension card holders
Healthcare card holders
DVA Gold card and eligible DVA patients
Children under 16 years of age

We are aware of recent media reports suggesting that “all you need to access healthcare is a Medicare card.”
Unfortunately statements such as these, do not reflect the true costs involved in running a medical practice.

We will continue to Bulk Bill eligible patients listed above for as long as we are able, any changes to this policy will always be communicated via multiple resources, in advance.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, please discuss this with your GP during your appointment.

Further information about fees can be found by following this link https://www.villagemedical.com.au/fees/

Thank you for your kindness, patience, and understanding

🌸 That’s a wrap on Women’s Health Week!

We’ve finished the week in bright colours, with our Buronga Avenue Reception space beautifully decorated to match this year’s theme. One of the best parts of Women’s Health Week is being able to share important health services with our community.

As of July 1, Medicare now funds Menopause and Perimenopause Health Assessments. These dedicated consultations give women time with their GP and nurse team to talk through symptoms, health needs and support options.

To book, call our friendly reception team or speak with your GP today.

Thank you for celebrating with us this week 🙏

Pain isn’t just ‘part of being a woman’, and you don’t have to push through it alone.

Today marks Day 4 of Women’s Health Week - Pain to Power. Let’s challenge the idea that pain is something women must simply endure.

If you're living with chronic pain, whether that's pelvic pain, migraines, period pain, or something else, reach out.

Let’s work together to understand your experience and create a plan that brings you from pain to power.

Heart disease in women is often under recognised, but today, we’re changing that 💓

Understanding your heart health starts with regular checks. This includes assessing blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and other risk factors important for cardiovascular health. Think of it as an act of selfcare.

Jean Hailes has made it easier than ever with their Her Health Check tool, just a few simple questions and you’ll receive a personalised list of recommended health checks, including heart health checks.
https://checks.jeanhailes.org.au/

Equipped with your results, we encourage you to book an appointment with our friendly GP team to prioritise heart health.

They can explain the results, talk through what’s normal for you, and help you create a plan to protect your heart.

Remember, being Heart Smart means combining awareness with action ❤

📢 A Message to Our Mount Gambier and surrounding community

We understand the growing concern and distress within our community regarding GP clinics closing their books, and the uncertainty this brings to the future of healthcare in Mount Gambier.

As a practice, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our books to new patients. Our current patient base exceeds 12,000, and we must prioritise sustainable workloads to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our GPs and support staff, as well as maintain the quality of care we provide to our existing patients.

Please know that this decision was not made lightly.

Behind the scenes, we have been actively working hard to:
- Recruit additional healthcare professionals
- Expand our clinic facilities
- Advocate for better regional healthcare services

Despite our best efforts, regional healthcare is facing long standing systemic challenges that no single clinic can resolve alone.

We kindly ask for your understanding and compassion during this time. We have experienced an increase in abuse and aggression, especially toward our Reception team, and this is a reminder that we will not tolerate abuse or blame directed at our staff, who are doing their absolute best under difficult circumstances. They are not responsible for the current situation, and they deserve to be treated with respect.

Instead, we encourage you to channel your frustrations into action by engaging with your local MPs and contacting the Health Minister to advocate for increased support for regional healthcare.

In the meantime, if you require medical care, the following telehealth and online providers may be able to assist:

Hello Home Doctor https://hellohomedoctor.com.au/

Hola Health

HealthDirect

Beyond Blue - Counselling Support https://www.beyondblue.org.au/

Lifeline - Crisis Chat https://www.lifeline.org.au/crisis-chat/

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work tirelessly to serve our community.

Please be kind to our team, we are all in this together.

📢 Important Announcement, Dr. Oliver Wesa’s books are now closed.

As of 1st August 2025, Dr. Oliver Wesa’s books are now closed. This means that as a clinic, we are no longer accepting new patients at this time.

This has been a difficult decision, especially after the overwhelming response we've had, over 700 new patients have registered with us in just the past two months since we announced the books were open.

To ensure the ongoing quality of care and to keep our GPs' workload manageable, we must now pause new registrations.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support.
