My Passion For Yoga
Just like most people, I started yoga as the physical exercise when I began suffering from some health issues a few years ago. Exercise has never been something that I was interested in, especially with my eczema condition which I was born with, I am not used to sweating due to extensive exercise regimens. However, as a result of the lifestyle medical conditions that I strugg

led with, my body started showing signs of struggling to function. In my early thirties, my skin began to feel tough and tight, always itchy and weeping, pain filled my body at times, I felt swollen and burned. I also experience trouble with heart and blood pressure issues. In essence, my health was that of someone in their seventies despite the fact that I not even half way there. This resulted in constantly doubting myself and wondering how long can I stand this life? But what can I do? I knew that I had to do something about the suffering that I was going through, this was no way to live. I had to find a way out, I wanted to open a door to a new life. I began to open myself to the possibility of exploring anything and everything, I needed to turn over a new leaf and eliminate the suffering that I was suffering from. One day a yoga studio logo touched caught my attention and called out to me, it said "3 times yoga a week will change your body, 6 times yoga a week will change your life"
I told myself " Yes, I need this change!!". Therefore, I prepared myself to attend the yoga class in as much clothing as possible because I was so embarrassed about my skin. Lucky it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. On a typical day, I am in pain most of time because sweating makes me itch and feel amazingly uncomfortable as a result of this. However, I truly have to say yoga is the best choose for me, because 1st, I have the instructor to follow, This helps to ensure I complete the whole section and remain focused throughout the entire session. 2nd,the progressive approach allows me to find a pacing that I am very comfortable with. I enjoy the increasing difficulty and the relaxing feeling it provides me with. Third, I practice self control in the class, I am able to build up tolerance to exercise without responding to the urge to scratch my skin during the session. This control makes me feel more confident and happy on a daily basis. I started practicing yoga 3-5 times a week, the more yoga I do the more benefits I experience. I sleep better and have more energy throughout the week. In addition to the physical change I can see, I have experienced increased spiritual awareness. Yoga for me is a journey of discovering myself, the longer I do yoga the more I can't ignore the little voice inside. I didn't want to hide inside of a shell or struggle with confidence, I wanted to be happy, get to know a larger group of people and develop friendships in the process. I wanted to be able to embrace life and I want to learn to dance, which I had been told I would never be also to do even since I was very young. I started Latin dance, it was very unusual for me, I could not move my arms and legs together with music, then if I follow the music I could not move my body with rhythm. Partner dance was my dream because it is so beautiful and romantic. However, I'm was afraid of having people touch me, I couldn't relax when I dancing and I was so stiff from crippling fear. About 2-3 years later, I slowly built up my health, confidence and much more through practicing yoga and dancing. I just kept pushing myself into a higher and deeper level while breaking down barriers in the process. I am so blessed to be able to have experienced this amazing and life changing journey, it has transformed my life. I completed a training course with "Being yoga" and became a qualified yoga teacher. I enjoy dancing and socialize like a party girl. I also do some dance performances, these are things I could never imagine myself doing just 3 years ago. I really appreciated all the support from people who expressed faith in me throughout my journey, it has helped me find my strength during the most difficult times. I am not strong, not brave, most of time I just tell myself I have to do it but I'm so lucky to have the support from loved ones, it has allowed me to push forward. Today, my passion is to introduce yoga to help more people maintain their heath, reduce the stress within their lives and find a passion that will forever change their lives. I would like to work with elderly people to help them excel and discover that they have an endless ability to get active. Also, I would like to combine yoga and dance together in my class to make yoga more fun and achievable. I want to focus on knees, low back, spine, core strength and calming techniques for a happier and healthier life.
