Western Queensland Primary Health Network Western Queensland PHN is one of 31 Primary Health Networks (PHNs)

Western Queensland PHN is one of 31 Primary Health Networks (PHNs) established and funded by the Commonwealth Government to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of primary care services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes. A key role of Western Queensland PHN is to assess the health care needs of communities and commission health services to meet those needs, minim

ising gaps or duplication. This is achieved by supporting health services to connect with each other to improve people’s care and strengthen the primary health care system.

📣ONE Bridge is a nurse-led social enterprise delivering mobile and community-based health services across Australia, supporting vulnerable populations with outreach care, chronic disease management, mental health support, and more.

You may have seen the ONE Bridge nurses around Mount Isa recently offering blood pressure checks and they’ll be back soon to support vaccinations for the community. 💉

With World Immunisation Week (24–30 April 2026) approaching, it’s a timely reminder of the important role vaccines play in protecting individuals and communities from preventable diseases.

📣Brisbane GP registrars recently took part in the GP Registrar Rural Immersion trip to St George, Surat, and Roma from 25–27 March 2026.

Supported by South West Hospital and Health Service and WQPHN, the program offered hands-on exposure to rural general practice, hospital services, and Aboriginal community-controlled health care.

Activities included case discussions, emergency simulations, and education in skin cancer, sepsis, and palliative care, with a focus on building skills for rural, resource-limited settings and culturally safe care.

The initiative forms part of broader workforce development strategies aimed at supporting recruitment and retention of the rural general practice workforce in Western Queensland.

✨This week, Western Queensland PHN representatives participated in the Primary Care Conference, held on 23–24 March at the National Convention Centre in Canberra, on Ngunnawal Country.

Hosted by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the conference brought together primary care leaders from across Australia, including Primary Health Networks, government representatives, peak bodies, clinicians, academics and consumers.

Under this year’s theme, “Primary Care Teams: Integrating Collaboration, Policy and Technology,” discussions focused on strengthening collaborative practice to support a more connected and responsive primary care system through aligning policy, digital innovation and collaborative practice.

Participants engaged in a series of workshops and presentations addressing key priorities, including team-based care, digital health innovation, cross-sector engagement, and enhancing collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and research partnerships

Attending this conference provides valuable insights that will guide our ongoing initiatives and help support more connected, responsive primary care for communities in Western Queensland.

Healthy Outback Communities (HOC) - March Pilates session in Stonehenge! 🌿

A big thank you to Bec Manns from Outback Fitness Pilates for leading another fantastic session, supporting the community to build flexibility, strength, and overall well-being in the heart of the outback.

Despite the challenges this month, with around half the community cut off on the other side of a flooded river, the turnout was nothing short of amazing.

Some participants even made the effort to boat across the river to attend, highlighting just how important these gatherings are.
The Stonehenge community continues to show how much it values social connection and proudly gets behind health initiatives like these monthly Pilates sessions.

Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend, your support keeps these sessions strong! 💛

Got questions or keen to learn more? Reach out to the HOC team at hoc@wqphn.com.au and take charge of your health and wellbeing today 💪✨
