Western Queensland Primary Health Network

Western Queensland Primary Health Network Western Queensland PHN is one of 31 Primary Health Networks (PHNs)

Western Queensland PHN is one of 31 Primary Health Networks (PHNs) established and funded by the Commonwealth Government to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of primary care services for patients, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes. A key role of Western Queensland PHN is to assess the health care needs of communities and commission health services to meet those needs, minimising gaps or duplication. This is achieved by supporting health services to connect with each other to improve people’s care and strengthen the primary health care system.

🌟 Western QLD Nursing Future Program – November Training Update 🌟

Congratulations to the participants of the Western QLD Nursing Future Program, who successfully completed two intensive weeks of clinical training and assessment in Townsville this November.

The program encompassed a broad range of essential skills, including IDC insertion, oral, IV and injectable medication administration, blood transfusion procedures, and complex case scenario assessments. We are pleased to share that all participants passed their requirements.

Students also took valuable time out to immerse themselves in cultural learning on Bindal and Wulgurukaba Country.

Well done to everyone involved. 👏👏👏

👏👏 WQPHN congratulates True Relationships & Reproductive Health on being named as one of the providers in the Australian Government’s expansion of Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinics.
True already delivers important women’s health outreach across Blackall and Tambo, and this new funding recognises the value of enhancing the services to provide multi-disciplinary care via an outreach model.
In what will be a hub-and-spoke model, future service locations across Western Queensland will be guided by planning, community need, and provider capacity.

👩‍⚕️ ENDOMETRIOSIS CLINIC 👩‍⚕️

Outback Queensland is set to gain a new endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic after the federal government announced an expansion of women's health services.

True Relationships and Reproductive Health will open a new endometriosis facility in Blackall in early 2026. 👏🩷

Director of Nursing and Health Services at True, Lisa Harrison, said the clinic will benefit all of western Queensland.

"The model is set up to service the whole of the western corridor and western Queensland PHN, and Blackall is an area that we are already visiting in our existing outreach services ... so we will base ourselves as a hub," Ms Harrison said.

It's one of eleven new Australian Government-funded clinics across the country, which regional women's health researcher Jessica Spain says will help remove barriers for treatment. ✅

"There is this rural, you know, that culture that you're tough and push through and so hopefully having these clinics closer might reduce that barrier ever so slightly in accessing that."

💙 Disability Action Week 2025 – Communicate. Connect. Create.

Meet Justine, a proud community member who believes true inclusion starts with understanding and respect. Living with an invisible disability, she’s passionate about helping others see that not all disabilities are visible and that words and attitudes matter deeply.

“We are the same as everyone else; we just have different needs. Please walk beside us"

She’s proud of how far she’s come on her journey, learning to adapt, advocate, and stay strong with the love of her family and friends. Her hope is for communities to become more accessible, compassionate, and led by lived experience, where everyone can share their story, feel safe, and belong.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, led by the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation, is held annually to highlight the importance of preventing cervical cancer. This year’s theme, “The Power of Choice,” focuses on the options now available to support cervical cancer prevention.

There are now more ways than ever to protect yourself:

A cervical screening test is recommended every five years for women and people with a cervix aged 25–74.

💙 Today is World Diabetes Day 💙

Observed every year on 14 November, World Diabetes Day raises awareness of diabetes and its impact on individuals, workplaces, and communities.

The 2025 theme, “Diabetes and Well-being,” focuses on “Diabetes and the Workplace,” highlighting the need for access to care, support, and understanding at work.

In rural and remote areas, equitable access to diabetes care and workplace health initiatives is vital. Let’s support healthy lifestyles, regular check-ups, and early detection to reduce the impact of diabetes in our communities.
