Shirley Powley posted: I belong to a number of Facebook sites connected with the history of WW1, and the other day the name of a cemetery in France was mentioned in a Post...I remembered that one of our Cloncurry soldiers was buried there, and mentioned it...Immediately the site owner,Jurgen Verhuist. wrote back to say that he was sure members of the group would visit the grave this week.. Here are photos he sent today, showing the grave of Sapper Daniel Hugh McKinley (on our Memorial as McKinlay)...and members of the group making the promised visit to the Hooge Crater Cemetery, near Ieper in Belgium...IHe was known as "old Dan" as he was 53 years when he enlisted and gave his age as 32...He was a blacksmith at one of the big mines near Cloncurry, and was with the first Tunnellers. I said I would share the story of this kindness on behalf of Cloncurry with you all.
