Our state of mind greatly influences how we experience life.
Acceptance in response to a situation involves acknowledging and accepting your feelings, recognising what you can or cannot do about the situation and moving forward accordingly. You can be unhappy with a situation yet accept what has occurred. Accepting what currently is, does not mean you cannot choose to try and change the situation. It does mean that in the present moment, rather than resist what is true, you acknowledge your feelings and accept the present moment.
For example, you feel sad and disappointed about failing a test. You practise acceptance and recognise that you likely can't do anything to change what has occurred. So, you acknowledge your feelings and treat yourself with compassion. You consider how you want to move forward and decide to ask for feedback or engage a tutor before your next test.
