Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet Closing the gap by providing the evidence base for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health

For over 20 years, the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet has provided support to those working in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health sector by making research and other knowledge readily accessible. Our website hosts published, unpublished and specially-developed material about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, making these resources freely accessible to people with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and skills and improving their practice and/or policy work. For students and the general community, the knowledge accessible via our website aims to improve their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and related areas. We encourage and support information-sharing among practitioners, policy-makers and others working to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health. Our core functions are made possible by grants (particularly from the Australian Department of Health and Ageing's Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, and Indigenous Programs and Psychostimulants Section). Specific research activities are supported by funds from a variety of sources. Services include case management for safety and wellbeing, connecting clients with the community, facilitating workshops, creating safe spaces to yarn with Elders, advocating for clients, and assisting with referrals for support.

The First Nations Cancer Scholarship Program by Aurora Education Foundation provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduate students, health professionals and early-career researchers with funds to undertake full-time postgraduate study or research in a cancer-related field.

Research can be completed at recognised universities or institutes in Australia, the United States or the United Kingdom.

Up to four scholarships will be awarded yearly from 2024 to 2026.

QLD: Kambu Health’s culturally safe Elder Care Journal is designed to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders to guide their own health journey.

The journal features vibrant artwork and supports Elders to keep track of their health information, including appointments, blood sugar and blood pressure record keeping. It also contains helpful information about health services, aged care support and digital health.

The Elder Care Journal was developed by local Ipswich Elders with support of Kambu Health and Darling Downs & West Moreton PHN.
