This year's theme “Stand UPPP - Unite. Prevent. Protect. Prevail.”, reminds us all of the vital role we play in keeping our patients, caregivers, and community safe.

Our Infection Protection & Control team have been busy promoting the week across the hospital and using it as an opportunity to launch our new Caregiver Compliance Vaccination Clinic.

October is National Safe Work Month - a time employers and workers across Australia commit to creating safe and healthy workplaces.

Recently we ran a event for our caregivers and invited Michael Weston, a mental health speaker who shared his own story about a life-changing event.

Michael’s story gave us plenty to think about when it comes to looking after our mental health and spotting the warning signs in ourselves and others. His unique ability to engage and inspire self-reflection truly moved us all.

Thank you, Michael, for sharing your powerful experience and practical strategies for holistic mental health and wellbeing. Your story touched us deeply and reminded us of the importance of supporting one another through stress and pressure.

Let’s continue to listen, reflect, and find simple ways to care for ourselves and each other every day.

During our recent Foundation Day celebrations, we were proud to present Orana House, our Charity of Choice with a cheque for $4,046.15.

A cause close to many people's hearts, Orana House provides stable accommodation, advocacy and holistic support for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.💜

A huge thank you to our caregivers, whose support through events like our Caregiver Quiz Night made this possible.

This week we celebrate Foundation Day and recognise the long-serving caregivers who make up the fabric of our diverse and wonderful hospital.🌟

Among these is Admissions Team Leader/Privacy Officer, Honorine Gleeson, who joined the hospital (when it was known as St Anne's) in 1995 as an Admissions Officer.

As she reflected on her experiences working for St John of God Health Care, Honorine said, "I feel blessed, privileged and humbled to have worked the last 30 years in this beautiful organisation. I have cherished memories of the Mercy nuns who were like family and colleagues past and present with whom I have developed long lasting friendships with."

Congratulations Honorine on this remarkable milestone. 🧡

We are pleased to announce that Enrolled Nurse, Ranya Kabasha was awarded our Caregiver of the Year Award at this year's Foundation Day celebrations. 👏

Ranya was announced as our Living Values Award winner back in May and is often recognised by patients and caregivers for her kindness, compassion and for always going that extra mile. This was evident in the comments from her manager, "Ranya is someone who never fails to brighten your day, especially with her beautiful and contagious smile!! She shows such kindness to both her colleagues and patients which turns any bad day into a positive one."

Congratulations to Ranya and all our Living Values Award winners over the last 12 months. Each and every one of you are shining examples of living the values of St John of God Health Care every day.✨

Today, St John of God Health Care celebrates Foundation Day. A day that provides us with an opportunity to honour the contributions and founding spirit of the Sisters of St John of God.

We began the day with coffee and delicious Portuguese tarts for our caregivers, followed by a special Mass and recognition ceremony to honour 66 of our long-serving caregivers. Together, they represent an incredible 765 years of dedicated service!✨

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the exceptional caregivers who were acknowledged today including our Living Values Award winners, and we would like to thank everyone who joined us in celebrating Foundation Day. 🧡

Our hospital is turning mealtimes into moments of connection. ✨

We are excited to launch a new communal dining trial in our Specialist Rehabilitation Services ward where twice a week patients can choose to leave their rooms and share a meal together.

Sometimes it is the simple things that matter and our patients are loving the chance to connect, chat and support one another on their recovery journey. 🧡

💬 Why does patient feedback matter? Because it helps us grow, improve and make sure we are meeting the needs and expectations of our patients and community.

It also brightens the day of our caregivers, reminding them of the difference they make to the lives of others. 🌞

⭐ Celebrating some of our recent 'Stars of the Week'! ⭐

Congratulations to our Endoscopy Team and Environmental Services Team for being recognised for the incredible care and dedication they show every day.👏

Here's what patients had to say:

"The nursing staff in endoscopy were excellent! Excellent communication, warm & friendly professional care from admission to discharge."

"The cleaners and food delivery staff who come in with a smile and always ask are you okay."

These nominations really do show that when it comes to patient care, it is a whole team effort that can make the difference. 🧡

R U OK? Day is a powerful reminder to check in with each other. 💛

Today, our caregivers gathered in the sunshine within our beautiful gardens to acknowledge the importance of looking out for one another, not just today but every day.

If you notice someone might be struggling, trust your gut and reach out to ask "Are you OK?" These simple words could change a life.
