Well... We have just got power back after a marathon 13 days of no electricity, no water, no septic, along with the rest of our little mountain community.
What stays with me tonight is an overwhelming sense of gratitude, care and compassion that we have shown each other, and also been shown by the surrounding communities and towns who have all pitched in together to help us come back from the biggest natural disaster I think I'll ever live through. The tornado of Christmas Day evening 2023 was a horrific event that I doubt any other locals will ever forget. A week later, we were slammed with floods and rain in the lead up to New Years Day 2024. The impact of both events was a community left literally in pieces.
I am extremely fortunate, we received minimal damage, all things that can be repaired. Others in our town have not been so lucky, and my heart aches for their loss. It will be many more weeks before we are all back to normal, but now that we have power, I wanted to jump on and preserve for posterity the events of the last few weeks... and our resilience and supportive community that came together and helped one another. Some of the images filmed are mine, but many more are from our community pages, energex, the news, family and friends that have recorded the events.
Thank you to every single person that showed kindness and helped us.
We are so very, very grateful x
