The Online Meditation Teacher Training Retreat “Living with Grace and Ease” last weekend focused on exploring grace and ease in daily life through various meditation practices, Yoga Nidra sessions, and contemplative exercises designed to help participants connect with inner guidance and support. Lisa guided participants through multiple meditation sessions, including walking meditations and a detailed polarity integration exercise, while encouraging journaling and breakout discussions to process personal experiences.
The underlying themes in the Living with Grace and Ease experience were:
- Accessing inner guidance and support to navigate life's challenges more smoothly. Grace can manifest in various ways, such as sudden insights, relationship shifts, or problem resolutions.
- Empowerment through vulnerability, honesty, and courage, rather than traditional notions of power.
Participants used journaling prompts to explore deeper aspects of these themes and uncover potential areas for growth.
Lisa guided the group through an exercise on identifying and understanding personal polarities, or habitual ways of reacting. Participants shared their experiences and discussed how these reactions often stem from fear and past conditioning. Lisa emphasized the importance of recognizing and accepting these polarities without judgment, suggesting that by doing so, one can find a balanced middle ground and learn from both positive and negative reactions.
Yoga Nidra Practices were a feature of this retreat experience. Yoga Nidra is a deep relaxation practice that aids awareness and dates back to ancient Hindu texts. Lisa guided participants to create a Sankalpa (heartfelt intention) for the practice and then took them through a body scan, focusing on relaxation and awareness of different body parts. This was a deeply relaxing and refreshing practice.
Walking Meditations were also part of the experience on both days. So many personal insights were gained by looking at nature more closely and mindfully, and reflecting on the mirrors of what we observe in our own lives. The group discussed their experiences of observing nature during walks, focusing on contrasts, polarities, and the grace inherent in natural processes.
The second day included various guided meditation sessions focused on relaxation, values clarification, and energy management, along with creative exercises and discussions about setting boundaries and cultural perspectives. The retreat concluded with participants reflecting on their weekend experiences and sharing insights about work-life balance and self-care.
On the second day, the group discussed the power of mantras and their personal experiences with using them for support and healing. Lisa shared her own experiences with mantra practice, particularly during times of crisis, and emphasized that mantras can be used in both challenging and everyday situations to foster a sense of grace and ease. The discussion highlighted the universal nature of mantras and their ability to support individuals across different belief systems and personal experiences. A powerful Mantra meditation followed.
During the weekend several movement practices were offered. Participants shared how they found different ways to connect with the music and their bodies. Lisa then led a journaling exercise focused on values and boundaries, and the group discussed their personal experiences with setting boundaries and asserting their needs.
The group reflected on their weekend retreat experience, sharing personal insights and takeaways. Many participants discussed how the retreat helped them clarify values, particularly around work-life balance and self-care. Several mentioned deep shifts in perspective.
