Have you heard of ‘Attachment Theory’?

The Circle of Security graphic represents the basic needs of every child within interaction with their important caregivers. We can see from this image that parents play an important role in supporting smooth interaction. But what is actually more important, is for a parent to learn to repair a disruption – the foundation of a secure attachment! 👩‍👧

Fostering secure attachment with children who have an diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Language Disorder or who have experience childhood trauma can be tricky. But secure attachment is possible and can help vulnerable children maximize their developmental potential!

Dealing with a fussy eater?

Learning to eat is one of the most complex skills a child learns 🤓
And it can often been one of the primary stressors for a family

Eating is driven by a primative motor reflex for the first 1-6 months of life. After this time, signficiant changes in the your childs anatomy occurs, and feeding is no longer under the sole control of these reflexes!

Learning to eat is influenced by a range of factors including beliefes and culture, you own experiences and history with eating/food and your childs developmental skill and needs, temperament and preferences.

A Speech Pathologist can play a role in supporting you and your child with feeding challenges! 🥦🥑🥕🌽🥝

If meals with your children are ruled by what they refuse to eat, consider this dietitian’s advice on how to tackle fussy eating and win mealtime back.

Our service is family and strength based 💪 We value working with all the important people in a child’s life (mum, dad, grandparents, kindergarten teachers, you name it!) to improve positive communication and development outcomes ⭐️

Our service delivery focuses on providing therapy in line with the key principles of Early Intervention Practices and aims to always keep in mind:
👧 Children learn best through every day experiences and interactions with the important people in their lives
🧒All families, with the right level of support and guidance, can support their children’s development.
👦It takes a tribe to raise a child – we want to work with parents, families and significant others to build upon your knowledge and skills to best meet the needs of the child!

October is AAC awareness month! The goal is to raise awareness of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and to inform others about the many different ways in which people communicate. Many of the people we work with use AAC to communicate - and we love giving them a voice!!
