Thrive Occupational Therapy Mudgee

Thrive Occupational Therapy Mudgee Together Thriving, based in Mudgee NSW, provides Occupational Therapy + Speech Pathology services. Rebates may be available through private health funds.

Thrive OT, based in Mudgee NSW, provides Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to children aged 0-17. Occupational Therapist, Kirsty Bowlay, has the perspective and knowledge about occupational roles, child and family occupations, and enabling occupational performance so that the child and family can fully participate in a meaningful life. Occupational Therapists help children and families set occupation based goals. This might include:
Self Care: daily routines, dressing, manipulating buttons and shoelaces, bathing, feeding, using cutlery, opening packets / containers etc;
Play: play is a way for children to develop cognitive, social, imaginative and motor skills. Age appropriate play is an important tool for skill development;
Learning: pencil and scissor skills, handwriting, copying from the board, concentration and attention;
Sensory and motor issues: identifying and addressing sensory and motor issues, including fine and gross motor, to complete the tasks they need, want, and have to do. Thrive OT is approved to provide services under the Complex Care Plan, Helping Children with Autism and Better Start for Children with a Disability schemes.

🌻 What do you want to know?🌻

We know that it’s very hard to get into OT, particularly in regional areas. Whilst we work very hard to service as many families as we can, it’s just not possible for us to see everyone individually.

We are considering developing some online courses, that you can access when it suits you, designed specifically for parents and carers, to support you and your child whilst you wait for individual OT. We want it to be useful, so we need your help!

What topics would be helpful for you to learn about regarding Paediatric OT? Fine motor, gross motor, pencil grasp, core strength, child development, infant development, morning and evening routines, emotions + regulation???

Comment below or shoot us a message - we’d love your feedback to get this project started. Any additional feedback regarding parent education sessions is also warmly welcomed.

🌻 Emotions 🌻

Self regulation is a common goal we work towards with families. This information is so important to consider when setting realistic goals for children.

Before this: co-regulation, co-regulation, co-regulation.

A typical 5 year old can only self regulate (manage big, difficult feelings independently), at most, 20% of the time. A typical 15 year old still needs us to completely calm them or co regulate (where you support them in calming) a whopping 40% of the time. An adult who has been fully supported to calm appropriately throughout their childhood can only expect to self regulate 90% of the time. Are our expectations of our children and young people too high?

🌻 Welcome to the Thrive OT team Chelsea! 🌻

Hi to all the kids and families in Mudgee! My name is Chelsea and I have just started working at Thrive OT as a new graduate OT, after having recently graduated from Charles Sturt University, Albury.

I am from Tullamore, NSW where I grew up on my family farm. I have a big passion for working in rural communities and delivering occupational therapy services to areas where it is in high demand.

I love working with kids as I feel I can make a big difference in their lives, which is incredibly rewarding! I also love building connections with the children and their family and assisting them to achieve their goals.

I already feel so welcomed by the Mudgee community and am so excited to be working here!

🌻 Welcome to the Thrive OT team Emily! 🌻

A big friendly hello to the children, families, and educators of Thrive OT! My name is Emily, and I am one of the new occupational therapists here at Thrive OT. I am fortunate enough to be working alongside my long time friend and fellow colleague Chelsea. In 2021 I graduated from a Bachelor of occupational therapy at Charles Sturt University in Albury- Wodonga.

I was born and bred in Bathurst, NSW which is not too far from Mudgee! I have grown up playing sport and visiting the beautiful town of Mudgee and I cannot wait to explore more of the beautiful town and get to meet more lovely locals.

My experience in Mudgee has been so amazing as I have loved meeting all the smiling and bubbly faces! My love for working with children began early in my university degree as I was extremely lucky to have had three out five university placements working with children and families in diverse settings.

Working in paediatrics brings so much pleasure and joy to my day as it is such a rewarding experience to watch children blossom into their amazing selves. Getting to work with children of different ages and abilities is something I am looking forward to as well as meeting new clients and their families. I have loved meeting some of you and I look forward to continuing to meet more lovely faces.
