Cording Exercises

Following on from what cording is and how it can be treated. Here are some basic and simple exercises that can be done at home to help self manage.

🔸Modified book openings;
Helping to mobilise the thoracic, get a stretch through pects and soft tissue through front of the chest.

🔸Book openings with a longer lever
With the arm straight it puts a bit stretch and load on the tissues and nerve that goes down the arm.

🔸Nerve gildes (flossing).
Although cording still has no medical definition. It is believed the tightness that pulls down the arm puts tension on the nerve. Using this technique helps mobilise the median nerve and has shown to give relief.

🔸Thoracic extension in neutral.
Gentle pushing the elbows back helps towards the bed, gives some slight thoracic extension to help with shoulder mobility, also stretching the front of the chest.

🔸Thoracic extension over a towel.
The towel helps give a bigger stretch and range of movement. The towel is so much nicer and gentle on the body.

All these movements should be done within limits and pain. Any problem or concerns, please seek professional advice.

Good balance is crucial for preventing falls and causing injuries like fractures or sprains.

🔹Balance improves your bodies ability to coordinate movements, improve reaction time and awareness, making daily tasks like walking easier.

🔹Balance contributes to better joint stability and therefore reducing joint pain and injuries.

🔹Balance boasts confidence and independence.

🔹Balance is important for older adults particularly as it naturally declines with age.

Balance is extremely important for everyone no matter what age or pathology you have. We can all benefit for it. Balancing on different surfaces; soft or hard, small or large surfaces, 1 leg or 2 leg, its all challenging and should keep being challenged.

Some studies have even linked some tests with shorter life expectancy 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
