I attended a lovely lunch today hosted by the Quota Alstonville. I had the pleasure of listening to and meeting Kaali Ortmann the CEO of Family Support Network Inc and hearing about the incredible work she and her team are doing.

They run playgroups, run a broad range of parent education programs, offer intensive support to families doing it tough including helping parents who have lost custody of their children develop the skills needed to reintegrate their families. Such powerful work at a grassroots level. Well done Family Support Network!

I just completed this free online course yesterday. Helpful for those working with older adults to be aware of the silent su***de epidemic (with the high rate of su***des occurring in our older people). It also has a helpful model for showing you how to have a conversation with an older person who might be at risk.

Equip yourself with Anglicare's program to aid older individuals grappling with suicidal thoughts. Offer a beacon of hope and care. Download the resources now.

Sharing a great neuroaffirming Facebook group and book for those with Autistic young persons. ๐Ÿ™‚

Our CEO, Cathy is neurodivergent and mum to 2 autistic young people. She knows that as a parent of a child recognised as autistic as a pre-teen or teen, it can often feel difficult to find the answers you need. Children who make it to late primary/early secondary age before being picked up by the system tend to present with traits that are harder to spot, meaning it can be harder to engage professionals in the diagnostic process and gather the necessary support.

Cathy has tailored this handbook to support parents with older children or teenagers who are at the identification stage, walking them through the basics in an engaging and accessible manner. She addresses key challenges for this age group, including co-occurring conditions, puberty, and safeguarding, as well as looking to the future, advising on schooling options, and beyond.

Designed to help parents become fully informed and ensure a nurturing and positive environment for our autistic young people, this is a guide with a focus on difference - not deficit.

The serotonin theory of depression: a systematic umbrella review of the evidence. Something for us all to really think about!

The serotonin hypothesis of depression is still influential. We aimed to synthesise and evaluate evidence on whether depression is associated with lowered serotonin concentration or activity in a systematic umbrella review of the principal relevant areas of research. PubMed, EMBASE and PsycINFO were...

Wishing Sunrise Children's Association Inc (SCAI) a happy 18th birthday! As a cofounder of SCAI in Nepal it is heartwarming 18 years on to see what the team have achieved! They have cared for over 200 children in the Sunrise Home, with 170 being reintegrated back into immediate or extended family, and supported over 1300 vulnerable children and their families with education scholarship and livelihood development programs.

So many amazing success stories in that time and Emma Taylor (OAM) is an inspiration keeping it all going with the help of many hands. Happy Birthday SCAI! ๐ŸŽ‚

SCAI works to prevent trafficking and unnecessary separation of children from families, to reunite displaced children with their families, and provide children with a nurturing homes free from poverty
