We don’t buy from Coles or Woolworths and we never have.
Before starting Bower Camp Co., Bob ran an organic food business in Sydney. Working directly with farmers, he saw first hand how the major supermarkets squeeze suppliers, cut margins and erode the quality of what ends up on Australian tables, not to mention the damaging environmental impact caused by industrial farming, the huge number of food miles covered, central distribution hubs and refrigerated warehouses.
So when we started Bower Camp Co. we made a decision. We chose not to participate.
That means your camp food comes from organic and spray-free farms throughout the Northern Rivers, a coffee grower and roaster in the Byron hinterland, a sourdough bakery in Mullumbimby, a muesli producer that practises regenerative farming, and pasture-raised meat from farms across the Byron and Tweed valleys.
We know that we are incredibly lucky to live and work in an area with an abundance of high quality, local and organic producers available outside of the major supermarkets. It means that we are in the privileged position to be able to make this choice.
When you eat at one of our camps you’re eating food picked at peak ripeness, travelled a short distance to reach you and cooked with love and care. It’s a difference that puts money back into the local economy, that positivity impacts the land and the soil, that benefits farmers and is a difference that you can taste.
