A Medicare rebate for just 10 sessions to see a psychologist or mental health social worker is just not enough. For many, 10 sessions is just the tip of the iceberg, just enough to start the process, but nowhere near enough to make the real and lasting change that's needed to overcome mental health challenges and build long term resilience.
Initially, we could get up 18 sessions in a year, then it was reduced to 12, then 10. It went up to 20 during COVID, but is currently back down to 10 sessions per year.
We need to do better.
If you feel called, help by signing this petition to increase the number of sessions that Medicare offers a rebate for.

Have you met our Gestalt Psychotherapist, Suzy Gavey?

Suzy works with us on Thursdays at the Centre for Mind Body Wellness, and currently has availability to see new clients.

Suzy is a masters-trained Gestalt-psychotherapist who resonates deeply with the concept of psychotherapy as soul healing. Gestalt therapy offers a place where individuals can honestly bring themselves to each moment, developing their own insight and healing within the support of a therapeutic relationship. With a presence of warmth and inclusion, Suzy creates a safe holding for her clients to enquire into themselves and their life circumstance.

Suzy has lived through her own life challenges and initiations. She offers a depth of resource, resilience and humility. She is an advocate for embracing diversity within the human experience. Through Gestalt methodology she supports individuals to inhabit themselves more fully by building personal awareness and acting as an anchor where things may feel a bit rocky. There is no pressure to fix anything or even to have a final destination. She accompanies her clients on their personal journey to feeling better resourced in their lives and relationships. Suzy practices anti-oppressive therapy in which people can have deeper conversations with themselves, whilst being witnessed, and skilfully supported, in shifting their perspective on life in order to find greater connection to the life that is unique to them.

Suzy works with individuals, couples and teenagers. In her major Masters paper, she explored Beyond a binary view of gender in psychotherapy: working alongside trans and gender diverse people.

Meet the wonderful Jocelyn Strong!

Jocelyn (she/her) is an Integrative and Trauma-Informed Counsellor, Woman, Mother of three and local to the Northern Rivers for over ten years.

She works with us at the Centre for Mind Body Wellness on Thursdays and currently has availbility to see new clients.

Jocelyn possesses a vibrancy and warmth that immediately communicates a strong message of safety. She is passionate about facilitating a space where individuals can freely express themselves, face their past, and move towards a meaningful future.

Jocelyn is a skilled practitioner with much experience in working with trauma, loss, and mental health. She has a background in Psychology and post graduate studies in Counselling and Psychotherapy and is currently studying Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) as she expands her practice to include couples and families.

Jocelyn adopts a client led and integrative approach. She understands that we are all unique and at different stages in our healing journey where there is no ‘one size’ that fits all. Her work thus melds aspects of Neuroscience, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, with Experiential, Creative and Somatic processes.

Jocelyn’s aim is to support you to grow beyond the limits imposed by your history, disability and/or diagnosis. She believes that no matter what we have endured, there is a self that remains intact and unbroken. To work with Jocelyn is to get in touch with a sense of self again and to move through and forward, from a place of self leadership and self empowerment.

A long-term psychotherapy model is favoured where with time, care, consistency and a strong therapeutic alliance, great change can take form.

“Trauma isn’t the thing that we experience; it’s the pain we hold inside in the absence of an empathic witness.” (Peter Levine).

Jocelyn specialises in:

Emotion regulation
Coping skills and strategies
Anxiety
Trauma
Grief & Loss
Mental health
Relationships
Spiritual integration

Client groups:
